Human Resources and Payroll Assistant
Achievement House is a well-established non-profit organization serving San Luis Obispo County since 1957, dedicated to empowering adults with developmental disabilities through vocational training, education, adaptive living skills, and community inclusion. As a Human Resources and Payroll Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting both the Financial Services and Human Resources teams. Responsibilities
- Provide administrative support to the Financial Services and Human Resources departments.
- Maintain personnel files for all employees, including confidential records.
- Coordinate and support the hiring, verification, and screening process for new employees.
- Assist with maintaining health and wellness insurance records and agency insurance policies.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as company policies and procedures.
- Process and review employee timecards, enter payroll data into Paychex, and ensure timely and accurate payroll processing.
- Track, audit, and maintain paid time off (PTO) balances for all employees.
- Prepare and post monthly journal entries related to payroll, PTO, and workers’ compensation.
- Assist with in-service training programs and participate in the Safety Committee.
- Support the preparation of company reports and assist in meeting CARF standards as they relate to personnel.
- Maintain office equipment and ensure it is in proper working order.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous experience working with adults with developmental disabilities preferred.
- Valid California driver’s license, access to a personal vehicle, and current state-required auto insurance (driving required).
- Ability to pass required background checks.
- Strong oral and written communication skills in English.
- Basic math skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and maintain confidentiality.
- Proficiency with computers and technology.
- Compassion, patience, resourcefulness, and sound decision-making skills.
- Physical ability to regularly sit, stand, bend, twist, walk, and occasionally lift or move up to 30 lbs.
Compensation
Expected start pay is $24/hourHiring Bonus: $250
