Material Handler - Sorrento Valley - 1st Shift - $18/hr

Job Description

The Material Handler is responsible for performing the physical tasks involved in the receiving, staging, returning, shipping, storage, destruction, and inventory management of products, materials, parts, supplies, and equipment. Unpacks and checks material received against purchase orders or invoices, maintains records of received material, and rejects unsatisfactory items according to procedural requirements. Picks and stages material for production work orders and packs material for shipments. Performs cycle counts, item verification, consolidation, and transfer of material, ensuring adherence to good documentation practices.

Responsibilities

• Receive, unpack, and check materials against purchase orders or invoices.
• Maintain accurate records of received materials and reject unsatisfactory items.
• Pick and stage materials for production work orders.
• Pack materials for shipments and perform cycle counts.
• Conduct item verification, consolidation, and transfer of materials.
• Adhere to good documentation practices.

Essential Skills

• Proficiency with pallet jacks and forklifts.
• Experience in inventory control, shipping, and receiving.
• Ability to work independently and self-start.
• Proficient computer skills including Excel and Smart Sheets.
• Experience with ERP systems.
• Ability to work in cold environments.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience using RF scanners.
• Packaging and loading experience.
• Comfortable lifting up to 40 lbs.
• Knowledge of good documentation practices (GDP).

Work Environment

The work environment includes varied temperature settings, with significant time spent in cold rooms at -20 degrees. Employees may need to open large freezers and work in large room refrigerators. The standard working hours are from 7:30 AM to 4 PM, with voluntary overtime sporadically available during the week and sometimes on Saturdays. Minimum lifting requirements are 20 lbs, with individuals lifting up to 40 lbs independently. The facility includes a newly opened large warehouse in Otay Mesa, with potential future transfers to this location.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, California.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.
