Senior Manager, Map Scalability

We are seeking a high-performing Senior Manager to lead, manage, and scale the "Fleet Sense" organization. This crucial initiative delivers a highly impactful, end-to-end solution that is vital for the efficient and scalable growth of our vehicle fleet and geofence operations.

What is Fleet Sense? Fleet Sense is our strategic, closed-loop geospatial intelligence solution. It is designed to unlock the power of our rapidly growing vehicle fleet by transforming real-time telemetry data into continuously updated geospatial representations and a priori information. This system focuses on efficiency and scalability improvements across our entire map domain, ensuring we can rapidly scale our operational efficiency and geofence management without requiring hyper-granular human annotation. This system is critical for scaling our autonomous capabilities.

You will be responsible for translating the technical vision into a scalable, execution-focused roadmap, managing the design and architecture of complex data systems, and ensuring seamless collaboration across multiple engineering and product teams. This role requires a strong blend of technical expertise, organizational leadership, and strategic planning, focusing on leveraging real-time fleet data to continuously improve our geospatial intelligence.

In this role, you will:

• Lead and scale the Fleet Sense effort, managing multiple engineering teams responsible for the end-to-end solution, from vehicle data ingestion to final a priori map improvement.
• Drive the design, architecture, and scaling of robust, highly available solutions for data flows and the validation process for live, continuously updated data.
• Foster a high-performance culture, providing coaching, mentorship, and career development for team members.
• Develop and own the strategic roadmap for the organization, prioritizing initiatives based on business impact, technical feasibility, and resource constraints.
• Interface with other stakeholders (e.g., Perception, Planning, Mapping, Product, Data Science) to align roadmaps, manage dependencies, and drive successful product integration.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Computer Science or a related field
• Minimum of 8+ years of technical experience in Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience directly managing and scaling high-performing software engineering teams.
• Proven track record of successfully productionizing, designing, and deploying complex, horizontally scalable data platforms or distributed systems.

Bonus Qualifications

• Strong background and technical fluency in handling large-scale geospatial data, time-series fleet telemetry, or IoT data streams.
• Expert knowledge of cloud-native architecture and scaling solutions on major platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure).
• Deep understanding of the architectural trade-offs involved in data ingestion, stream processing, and data validation for continuous, live-updated datasets.
• Experience with NoSQL databases (like DynamoDB or MongoDB) and data warehousing solutions built for massive scale.

$291,000 - $350,000 a year

Base Salary Range

There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. The listed range applies only to the base salary. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The salary range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.
