Instructional Support Technician II - Non-Exempt
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
Instructional Support (50%): Uses discipline-specific knowledge to provide support services for studio classes. Prepares required materials for art classes like shaping wood, clays, glazes, and other materials as requested. Loads and fires kilns. Maintains, operates, and assist instructors, staff, and students in the safe use of natural gas and electric kilns, bronze foundry, welding, and metal fabrication equipment including Iron forge, Digital Electronic Fabrication Tools, and woodshop power and hand tool. Assists instructors, staff, and students in the safe use of materials and supplies in a studio setting. Provides customer service support for faculty, staff, and students utilizing an art/design studio facility, responding to requests in a timely and efficient manner. Ensures proper functioning and access to studio rooms, equipment, tools, supplies, and machinery. Assists with problem resolution and facility management activities as assigned or as needed. Supports orderly, operable, and streamlined facility conditions and overall maintenance of one or more studio facilities. May be required to perform expedited studio set ups and/or break downs within constrained time frames. Maintains an up-to-date raw materials inventory. Properly separates hazardous wastes and stores appropriately for chemical waste pickup. May assist with gallery displays. Provides general technical support for instructional programs offered by the Art Program at the undergraduate level, in addition to research activities as appropriate.
Administrative Support (50%): Maintains, reviews, and updates records of office hours, calendars, and syllabi for assigned academic programs. Completes, and submits forms, PCard purchases, or online requests to purchasing for faculty engaged in instruction, research, creative activities, assessment, program development, and grant related activities. Monitors, tracks and reconciles the expenditures, salaries and operating, within PeopleSoft for accuracy and ensures that expenses are within budget and approved per signature authority documents. Interprets and applies university policies and procedures related to all financial information to ensure compliance with all regulations and brings issues/concerns to the Chair and the MAR. May record meeting minutes in support of academic programs. Communicates and assists with providing information for interpersonal interactions at all levels of the university structure involving students, faculty, and staff. Receives, reviews, and provides information or refers the issue/inquiry to an appropriate position, for a high volume of telephone calls, emails, and walk-in visitors and conducts business with a high degree of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality. Oversees and leads the work of student assistants as required. Participates in department meetings and activities.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:
Education & Experience : Equivalent to two years of experience providing instructional support services in Art, acting as a student assistant, or in producing materials or supplies related to Art.
OR
Equivalent to two years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment and in an Art may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

Equivalent to four years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment Art may be substituted for the experience.
Bachelor's degree in art with work experience in preparing materials for university-level art courses is preferred.
Knowledge/Skills : Ability to learn and follow all studio safety practices. Ability to work with hazardous chemicals. After training, must be able to work independently under general supervision. Knowledge of the studio courses offered in an undergraduate university-level art program and their associated equipment and supplies. Strong interpersonal skills resulting in positive interactions with students, faculty, administrators, non-technical staff, and vendor representatives. Ability to communicate effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Excellent desktop and computer skills involving software including, but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with utilizing the internet to research and obtain information supporting assigned projects. Experience tracking expenditures and maintaining accurate information concerning account balances within program areas. Experience using interactive database systems such as PeopleSoft, highly desirable.
Position requires ability to work flexible hours including early morning, late evening, and weekends when needed with advanced notice when possible.
Physical Demands : Frequent/Continuous reaching within arm's distance, frequent sitting in office chair or standing for up to 5-7 hours at a time. Frequent/Continuous lifting/carrying of up to 50 pounds at waist level within office and laboratory areas, continuous use of hands to operate telephone, computer systems, laboratory equipment and preparation of labs, occasional reaching at or above waist level and shoulder level, occasional bending and/or stooping at the waist, continuous use of hands for grasping, fine manipulation, and ability to stand/walk up to 20 minutes at a time, over uneven terrain, and up slopes.

Hiring Range: $4,389 - $4,700 per month
