ASSOCIATE SAFETY ENGINEER (00103929)
Job Description and Duties
This is a non-telework position located in Pearblossom.
This position requires that the incumbent exercise competent independent judgment; analyze situations accurately and take effective action; work cooperatively with others; maintain regular, consistent, predictable attendance. This position also requires the incumbent to anticipate, recognize, evaluate, recommend, and implement controls for environmental and physical hazards that can affect the health and safety of workers.
Associate Safety Engineer
Under the general direction of the Supervising Hydroelectric Power (HEP) Utility Engineer, the incumbent independently conducts the varied and complex safety engineering inspections at the (northern or southern) State Water Project (SWP) Facilities throughout the State assessing safety hazards to Field Divisions, Headquarters employees, and department facilities and equipment. The Associate Safety Engineer investigates accidents and advises O&M Management regarding safety hazards and Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA) compliance ensuring the safety of SWP (State Water Projects) facilities, employees, and the public. This position will assist other Divisions that work for the Department of Water Resources with their safety program.
Assistant Safety Engineer
Under supervision of the Supervising Hydroelectric Plant (HEP) Utility Engineer or under the lead of the Associate Safety Engineer, assists fully qualified journey persons in performing assigned professional engineering work of average difficulty required to maintain a health and safety program for the Division of Operations and Maintenance, Field Division.

Special Requirements
Must have a valid California Class C driver’s license as incumbent will be required to operate automotive vehicles on public roadways, travel to remote areas within the field division is necessary to perform the requirements of this position.

The ideal candidate will be a collaborative and supportive team player who can also effectively work independently, with strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to make effective presentations to management and the public. The ideal candidate has experience in safety inspections and safety field work for SWP (or similar) facilities. Candidate must have experience in providing on-the-job training in safety industries best practice; experience analyzing and complying with training/record keeping; experience developing safe work practice policies and procedures; experience with safety protocols in asbestos, PCB, lead, and waste management; experience with engineering work with the ability to review electrical/civil drawings to ensure codes and laws are maintained. Knowledge in incident investigation and OSHA/Safety Training experience is ideal.
