Software Engineer - Backend Infrastructure
About the role:
At Skydio, we are pioneering the future of autonomous flight, developing the world’s smartest drones for a wide range of applications. In this role as a software engineer on our backend team, you will play a key role in shaping how we collect, process, and utilize data from our drones, driving deeper insights into drone performance and customer usage. Your work will directly influence the performance, reliability, and safety of our products, helping us push the boundaries of autonomous technology.
How you'll make an impact:- Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines to ingest, process, and analyze large volumes of flight telemetry and other drone-related data.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop tools and frameworks that provide engineers with detailed insights into fleet-wide metrics and individual drone performance.
- Create intuitive, self-serve data tools that enable teams to easily access, explore, visualize and monitor drone data, facilitating faster decision-making and debugging without the need for manual intervention.
- Develop and manage a company-wide data strategy that standardizes how data is accessed, shared, and utilized across teams, ensuring alignment on best practices, tools, and governance.
- Leverage your experience and best practices to not only uphold but improve Skydio’s engineering standards.
- Actively contribute towards the 24/7 availability of Skydio's platforms by joining our rotating on-call schedule.
What makes you a good fit:
- You have 5+ years of experience in software engineering, particularly in domains involving data systems at scale.
- You are customer focused and love shipping products quickly that solve customer problems.
- You have demonstrated ability to take a concept and systematically drive it through the software lifecycle: architecture, development, testing, and deployment, and monitoring
- You have experience building and delivering scalable and secure cloud based systems with a high proficiency in modern cloud technologies.
- Direct experience with our stack (Python, GraphQL, PostgreSQL, AWS, Databricks, Kubernetes).
- You are comfortable navigating and delivering within a complex codebase.
- Experience with Machine Learning, Data Pipelining, Robotics, or autonomous systems is a plus.

Compensation: At Skydio, our compensation packages for regular, full-time employees include competitive base salaries, equity in the form of stock options, and comprehensive benefits packages. Compensation will vary based on factors, including skill level, proficiencies, transferable knowledge, and experience. Relocation assistance may also be provided for eligible roles. The annual base salary range for this position is $127,500 - $180,000*. Fundamentally, we believe that equity is the key to long-term financial growth, and we ensure all regular, full-time employees have the opportunity to significantly benefit from the company's success. Regular, full-time employees are eligible to enroll in the Company’s group health insurance plans. Regular, full-time employees are eligible to receive the following benefits: Paid vacation time, sick leave, holiday pay and 401K savings plan.
