Director, Product & Project Management

Location: Foster City

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to a Senior Director, Product Management Team Lead , and part of the larger Pharmaceutical Development and Manufacturing (PDM) organization, the Director, Product & Project Management will serve as an individual contributor P M, working with our PDM Product Strategy Team Leads to support our portfolio of development & commercial products , as well as with PDM business leaders on non-project initiatives.

FOCUS AREA S

  • Serve as expert PM for our portfolio of development & commercial products with deep PM experience , working in partnership with the PDM Product Strategy Leads to develop, gain approval for, and execute on the product strategy for our products, including key milestones, budgeting and resource allocation

  • Identify and share best practices across the Product Strategy Teams and across the PDM-wide PM network

  • Use and iterate on a set of templated tools and processes for the PDM Team System , e.g. tools for communicating risks , key product milestones and product budgets

  • Ensure project work complies with established practices, policies and processes. Identify and share best practices with the other Product Management Directors

  • Direct highly complex product communications and ensure that all product customers are fully informed and knowledgeable of product activities and their status

  • Organize preparation of high-quality documents for review by governance committee in collaboration with the PDM Product Team

  • Identify complex project issues which pose a challenge to achieving strategic goals for the Prod uct Teams and then propose and implement plans to resolve such issues and execute corrective actions , with the PDM Product Strategy Lead

  • Support accurate and speedy PDM due diligence assessments as a PM so that the impact on PDM is planned and predictable

  • Support PDM Operations Managements implementation and iteration of G.Plan (Planisware) and G. Plan product templates. Support the flow of accurate data into PDM milestone planning and resource-allocation tools ( G.Plan )

  • Support PDM Operations Managements and PDM Finances collection of product budget information by implementing processes for PMs to collect budget info on a per product basis

  • Support PDM Operations Managements product portfolio reporting & analytics

  • Serve as PM for key PDM non-product projects, working with senior PDM leaders

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A degree in life sciences or a relevant business area with 12+ years of varied post-graduation experience in Pharmaceuticals, Biosciences or a related industry. Or MS with 10+ years of relevant experience. Or PhD with 8+ years of relevant experience.

  • Proven track record of successfully managing large scale, global and complex transformational biopharma product- related projects and programs

  • Demonstrated ability to partner with product / project leaders to set vision and strategy for cross-functional teams

  • Demonstrated capability to navigate and lead in a highly networked environment and experienced with the required elevated level of influencing skills.

  • Expertise in developing and managing project scope, deliverables, risks and resource requirements

  • Excellent analytical skills with an ability to summarize and present complex information in a clear and concise manner

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with all levels within the organization

  • Must be able to understand and communicate scientific and business elements associated with pharmaceutical / biotech products

  • Solid understanding of current industry trends

  • Leadership qualities of the successful candidate include the following: c ollaboration, accountability, cross-functional engagement and influence, program management, strategic vision, goal setting and performance management. Demonstrated ability to lead without authority, influ enc e and motivate teams

The salary range for this position is: $226,185.00 - $292,710.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans*.
