Founded in 2010, Coach Across America is a national nonprofit organization focused on the power of coaches to transform the lives of our nations most vulnerable youth, and the communities they live in, through sports. Coach Across America is based on the simple premise that highly trained coaches can be among the most transformative adults in young peoples lives and inspire their success on the field, in the classroom, and in life. Coach Across America partners with local nonprofits, schools, and sports organizations to support and train AmeriCorps coaches for a one year service term to work in underserved communities. Our AmeriCorps coaches participate in Sports-Based Youth Development training that emphasize the Social Emotional Learning (SEL) skills needed to help youth reach their full potential.

About Boys & Girls Clubs of the Foothills

The mission of the Boys & Girls Club of the Foothills (BGCF) is to enable all young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible members of our community. To carry this out, we rely on dedicated staff, supporters and volunteers to provide the best youth services possible in the areas of Education, Character & Leadership Development, Health & Life Skills, the Arts, and Sports, Fitness & Recreation. The primary responsibility for the Youth Mentoring Professional (YMP) Coach is to ensure our members are safe, build transformative relationships with them and plan/implement enriching programs/activities for them. The YMP Coach will set-up and implement daily programs, follow Club policies/procedures in leading members, help in all departments as needed and build positive relationships with members.

We are looking for multiple half time youth sports coaches who will serve an AmeriCorps service term of 900 hours over one year to support the sports programs, clinics, and play at the sites listed below. We would love experienced coaches, but we are fully prepared to teach and lead staff of any or even no experience with a specific sport or overall as a coach.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement and run 3-4 practices a week for the school year including but not limited to three sports over three seasons (Winter- Basketball, Spring- Soccer, Fall- Flag Football)
  • Assist with set-up, break-down, and any other coaching assignments during game days 1-2 days per week
  • Create & implement comprehensive curriculum-based activities for the grades assigned
  • Serve with a flexible mindset and pivot with schedule, rotation, location, assignment or programmatic changes to meet the needs of the organization and its members
  • Conduct enrichment programs for members and regularly recognize members successes
  • Engage in meaningful and supportive relationships with members
  • Prepared to support members in their academic needs through homework help, tutoring, and partnering with parents and/or teachers
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment
  • Input program attendance
  • Supervise Club members ensuring they remain safe and provide good role modeling
  • Enforce appropriate disciplinary procedures as necessary based on Club policy
  • Arrive on time and adhere to dress code
  • Participate in required trainings
  • Mentor groups of members as it pertains to our mentoring program and grant requirements
  • Assist Directors with any information needed to complete grant requirements and reports
  • Assist Directors and other YMPs with any other administrative and program/activity tasks as requested
  • Function as a driver for Club activities and/or school pick ups as required
  • Occasional weekend work will be required
  • Represent BGCF both during and outside of work hours in a manner that upholds the mission and values of our organization

Job Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • AmeriCorps is open to U.S. citizens, nationals, or lawful permanent residents
  • Must have, or be working towards a High School diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Successful completion of criminal history background checks
  • Understanding of Boys & Girls Clubs of America principles
  • Ability to implement Boys & Girls Clubs of the Foothills curriculum
  • Ability to drive club minivans for transporting members
  • Reliable personal transportation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs and Google Suite

  • The ability to stand and walk several hundred yards a day is the expectation during a work shift. Sitting with members occurs but is less frequent.
  • Physically fit with the ability to play and participate in activities with members
  • Talk or hear; use hands; handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and may be infrequently required to run.
  • Must remain physically fit enough to keep children safe in an emergency.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to perform certain duties.
  • The noise level in the work environment can range from quiet to moderate in office settings to moderate and usually loud in recreation and play settings when members are present.

Additionally, coaches must complete the following requirements to ensure successful completion of the AmeriCorps program:

  • Commit to completion of the minimum required hours (900) of service and training by the last day of coach contract
  • Completion of bi-weekly timesheets
  • Attend/participate in Coach Across America orientation, trainings, meetings, service days, and special initiatives
  • Must wear Coach Across America branded t-shirts with AmeriCorps logo when coaching and at program sessions and events

Service Dates & Hours:

  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 1:00pm-6:00pm
  • Wednesday 12:15pm-6:00pm

Living Allowance/Stipend: $12,150 total (Paid bi-weekly)

Education Award: $3,697.50 upon completing 900 hours, usable for education-related expenses.
