GA for Global Governance, Policy, & Development (AY 25-26 C91381)

This is a MIIS student Level B position paying $17.45 per hour

The position will report to Scott Pulizzi, IPD/MPA/ITED Program Chair on various tasks including:

  • Work with Assoc Dean and the faculty of the IPD/MPA/ITED programs to organize student events and gain input to program issues. Typical events include:
    • Social events for students (game nights, happy hours, etc)
    • Events with professors (meet and greets, course pitches, coffee chats, etc)
    • Other types of events (study sessions, commencement parties, etc)
  • Regularly advertise upcoming events via email and MICommunity
  • Attend faculty meetings, take notes, and give feedback as needed
  • Collaborate with Student Council Program Reps on student facing issues
  • Develop reports and data to support various projects
  • Provide support to the Associate Dean on various projects as assigned

Approximately 10-12 hours per week. Schedule to be arranged with Associate Dean.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of MICommunity, Canvas and other information posting sites
  • Good communication skills: strong writing skills, prior social marketing or communications work a plus
  • Understanding of IPD/MPA/ITED programs preferred, although not required
  • Strong skill level with MS Office suite of programs, including word, excel and ppt
  • Event planning skills helpful but not required

Other Duties/Responsibilities:

Performs other related duties as requested by Program.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Current computer skills, to include word processing, knowledge of internet, email and database management (Excel, Access).
  • Solid written and oral communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and record keeping skills.
  • Skilled command of grammar and spelling.
  • Capacity to prioritize and organize work requests and projects, often under pressure.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and public relations skills, including ability to work cooperatively with culturally and linguistically diverse students, clients, staff, faculty, and public.
  • Willingness and ability to comply with Institute policies, procedures, and mandates.

Education/Experience:

A combination of education and experience, which would demonstrate possession of the skills required for the position. College-level coursework and familiarity with an academic setting desirable.

Physical Requirements/Environment:

The Monterey Institute maintains a smoke-free/drug-free workplace. Job requires ability to sit for extended periods of time, ability to handle lightweight parcels and supplies, dexterity for repetitive action such as keyboarding, writing.

Student Employment Eligibility:

Unless restricted by certain visa status, all students with an active status for the semester are eligible for jobs on campus.

Students on leave or withdrawn are not eligible to work in student employment positions until the semester in which they return. If you are currently withdrawn or on leave you are eligible to be employed in staff positions.

Some may be restricted due to financial aid status. International students (non-resident aliens) may not work off campus unless they have applied for and received work authorization from the United States government. (An F-1 visa does not give work authorization.) Off campus work study positions are available only to U.S. citizens on financial aid with a federal work study component .

Student are not eligible to work remotely from International locations.

Hour Limitations:

All student employees are limited to working no more than 20 hours per week in on campus jobs during the academic year (this includes exam periods). The only exception is when there is a full week when school is not in session. Specifically: February recess, Spring recess, and full weeks of December or summer recess. During these time periods only, students can work up to 40 hours per week. International Students: Visa restrictions prohibit international students from exceeding 20 hours of work per academic calendar week.
