This position is located in the Veterans Homes Division and is responsible for providing analytical , coordination, and administrative support to help advance the Division's priorities .

Special Requirements

Veterans may qualify for a CalVet Veterans Hiring Preference. Military service must be included in the Employment History section of the Employment Applications (STD. 678). The application package must include documentation of discharge, appropriate to the branch of service. The documentation must reflect a discharge/release under conditions other than dishonorable. If the candidate fails to include this information then the CalVet Veterans Hiring Preference shall not be granted in the recruitment.

Statement of Qualifications

A Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is required. Please note that resumes, cover letters, and/or any other documents do not take the place of the SOQ. Applicants who fail to submit a complete SOQ as instructed and/or fail to submit all of the required documents may be eliminated from the selection process.

The SOQ serves as documentation of your ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing. In your SOQ, describe your experience, knowledge, and competencies as they relate to each of the items listed below. The items must be addressed and numbered in the same order as listed; do not consolidate responses. The SOQ must be no more than 2 pages, typed, using 12- point Arial font on standard letter-sized paper with one (1)-inch margins.

1. After reviewing the duty statement, identify the three responsibilities you believe are most critical to successfully supporting the Deputy Secretary and advancing the priorities of the Veterans Homes Division. Explain why you selected these responsibilities, how they contribute to the effectiveness of the Division, and how you would prioritize your time during your first six months to ensure these responsibilities are performed successfully.

2. The Analyst I serves as a communication link between Headquarters, the Veterans Homes, and executive leadership. Effective communication requires balancing competing priorities, maintaining accurate information, and supporting timely decision-making. Describe the principles that would guide your approach to communicating with multiple stakeholders while supporting executive leadership. Explain how you would ensure information remains accurate, timely, and consistent, particularly when priorities or information change rapidly.

3. The Veterans Homes Division relies on accurate information, effective coordination, and well-organized administrative processes to support executive decision-making and statewide operations. Based on the duty statement, identify one opportunity where improved organization, technology, or process standardization could strengthen support to the Deputy Secretary and the Veterans Homes Division. Explain why you selected this opportunity, how you would approach implementation, the challenges you anticipate, and how you would measure success.
