Forward Deployed Software Engineer, New Verticals

As a founding engineer on our New Verticals team, you’ll have the opportunity to build a technology platform that reshapes a $100B+ services industry with frontier AI. You will join a skunkworks team of software engineers and M&A professionals tasked with deeply understanding an industry and defining its AI transformation thesis.

You’ll fly on-site to embed with our portfolio companies, map out their critical workflows, and invent new agentic systems to deliver measurable changes in revenue, margin, and customer experience. You will own the delivery of your solutions from prototype → deployment → adoption and lay the foundation for an agentic operating system that will transform how knowledge work is done across the industry. You will build valuable skills in customer empathy, commercial instinct, and architecting AI agents that deliver tangible real-world impact.

If you’re a 0 → 1 builder who loves talking to users and wants to be at the frontier of a new asset class of AI rollups, this role is for you.

Locations : Toronto, San Francisco, New York (travel-heavy, client-facing)

Key Responsibilities

• Architect agents: Tool-using, retrieval-augmented, human-in-the-loop systems with structured outputs and auditable actions.


• Run evals: Offline/online eval harnesses, gold sets, A/Bs; track quality, safety, latency, and cost.


• Own production: APIs, workers, data models, and frontends; CI/CD, logging, tracing, SLOs, fallbacks, guardrails.


• Integrate deeply: CRMs/ERPs/GLs/custodians via APIs, SFTP/webhooks/RPA; enforce data quality, lineage, and privacy.


• Generalize wins: Turn bespoke deployments into reusable services/SDKs for rapid rollout across new verticals.


• Work on-site: Partner with operators during diligence and post-close; map workflows, land first value, iterate.

What We’re Looking For

• Production experience: 2+ years shipping and operating systems in Python (FastAPI) and TypeScript (Node/React).


• AI systems expertise: Frontier LLMs, function calling, embeddings/vector DBs, RAG, agent orchestration, eval frameworks.


• Reliability mindset: Meet SLOs; optimize latency/cost; build observability and incident playbooks.


• Integration chops: Secure data handling (PII/financial), auth/IAM, auditability; comfort with legacy systems.


• Customer fluency: Crisp discovery, scope management, and clear communication with executives and end users.


• Founder DNA: Ex-founder or founding engineer preferred; high ownership and bias to action.
