Job Description and Duties

Incumbent has primary responsibility for maintaining the district’s inventory of recyclable materials that are stored in recycle Warehouse. This includes the preparation and processing of all related documents. Inputs, modifies, retrieves, and deletes data into and from the computer database. Recommends transfer of equipment between locations and prepares documents.

Posts the results of recycle items inventory as certified by the appropriate project engineer. Oversees the recycle counting of items maintained in property records to ensure a complete inventory is conducted every three years. Reconciles property database records against records maintained by HQ Property Control.

Maintains Office of Business Operations training records and advises branch chiefs accordingly when training classes are being offered. Assists District Property Control Officer with disposal of surplus computer equipment to various charities and non-profit groups.

Coordinates and/or approves the pick-up and/or delivery of recycle property and other items to be stored or disposed of in the district. Maintains records of salvage material contracts and contacts in the community for disposal of surplus property.

Working Conditions

Position located at 111 Grand Ave, Oakland, Alameda County.

Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment.

This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans’s evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee’s designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a state owned or leased vehicle.

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:


The position must be familiar with current recycling regulations, rules, policies, and procedures. Incumbent must possess excellent communication and analytical skills, including the ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing. Must prepare comprehensive reports and be able to analyze situations quickly and accurately to take an effective course of action. Incumbent must possess knowledge and experience in the use of computers. Must be knowledgeable about relational database application and the ability to understand business processes and be able to incorporate them into a database application.
