What You’ll Do & The Impact You’ll Have

• Build our Data Platform from 0

• Product insights:

  • How are users engaging with onboarding & creating their digital mind?

  • What is the “time to magic” and what are the true magic moments in the product?

  • What behaviors correlate with long-term retention and user success?

• Growth insights:

  • How do different user segments behave?

  • What drives session success and how do we define success?

  • What actions predict upgrades, churn, or virality?

• Financial insights:

  • How are paid tiers performing?

  • How does usage vary between Free Tier and paid users?

  • What are the pricing dynamics for Free Tier and conversion pathways?

• Consumer platform insights:

  • What should users see when they land on the platform?

  • What Delphi should be shown during a “Quick Ask” or default prompt?

  • What recommendation algorithms make sense?

  • What kind of conversational experiences lead to a life-long Delphi user?

    • Types of Questions

    • Certain digital minds that perform over others

• Experiments

  • Run experiments consistently to learn about product behavior. Example: Duolingo learned that the most important metric to optimize for was whether people were coming back in 3 days

Required Abilities

• Strong programming skills in Python and SQL

• Experience designing and building data pipelines and ETL systems

• Familiarity with data warehousing (we're considering BigQuery)

• Comfort with cloud infrastructure (we use AWS)

• Proven ability to build scalable, production-ready data systems

• Experience creating clear, actionable reports and dashboards for internal decision-making

• Solid understanding of data modeling, schema design, and best practices around reliability and observability

Nice to Haves

• Experience with distributed data processing (e.g. Apache Spark)

• Familiarity with Kafka or event-driven architectures

• Exposure to basic data science or analytics workstreams

• Experience building recommendation systems or ranking algorithms

• Previous zero-to-one data infrastructure experience at a high-growth startup

• Ambiguity & Uncertainty: Many of our challenges don’t have obvious solutions. If you’re not comfortable navigating ambiguity or tackling problems without previous solutions this might not align with your working style.

• Not a 9-to-5: We move fast, iterate often, and tackle ambitious challenges. This isn’t a clock-in/clock-out environment.
