Senior Project Accountant - Successful Construction Company
- Act as a liaison between the project management and corporate accounting teams, ensuring financial integrity across all initiatives.
- Perform detailed cost analysis, monitoring variances between budgeted and actual costs, and evaluating project cost-to-complete data.
- Prepare and review billings, supporting documentation, and collection activities while overseeing subcontractor compliance requirements.
- Accurately process and record project billing, cost transactions, and related adjustments, maintaining comprehensive financial tracking and reporting.
- Manage subcontractor payment requisitions, releases, and disbursements, ensuring proper documentation and compliance.
- Oversee setup and validation of project financial data, ensuring accuracy in cost codes, labor rates, and other financial inputs.
- Review and interpret contracts to ensure alignment with accounting and reporting standards.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to project accounting staff, promoting professional growth and accountability.
- Lead project closeout process and ensure collection of retention in a timely manner.
- Contribute to financial modeling efforts, including revenue forecasts, break-even analyses, and profitability projections.
- Collaborate with estimating teams to assess project revenue streams and cost structures.
- Manage backlog reporting and forecasting to support corporate planning.
- Work closely with the GL and FP&A functions to provide a complete financial perspective of ongoing operations.
- Utilize Excel capabilities including VLOOKUP and pivot tables to analyze and present financial data effectively.
- Take on a growing strategic role within the accounting department, influencing process improvements and long-term financial planning.
- Partner with the Corporate Controller to analyze open receivables and support timely collections.
- Coordinate month-end close procedures, including over/under billing analysis and cost accruals
- Prepare monthly financial performance reports and presentations for leadership.
- Monitor project cash positions to ensure positive cash flow. Senior Project Accountant Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience in the construction industry.
- Experience compiling accrual based financial statements.
- Strong understanding of job costing, WIP, cost to complete & percentage of completion.
- Understanding of lien releases, preliminary notices, mechanical liens and insurance.
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a proven track record of cross-functional collaboration.
- Demonstrated ability to independently identify and resolve complex financial issues.
- Solid Excel skills including VLOOKUP and pivot tables.
- Experience utilizing a construction industry ERP system such as Vista.
