Siemens Mobility is seeking a Field Service Engineer in Oceanside, CA to support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of Siemens Charger locomotives. In this role, you will coordinate maintenance activities with the customer, provide technical guidance and training to maintenance teams, and recommend best practices that improve locomotive performance and service availability. You will partner closely with operational, engineering, dispatching, and financial teams while maintaining a safe work environment and delivering professional, responsive customer support. This is a daylight position primarily Monday – Friday.
What your day-to-day will look like:
- Champion a safety-first, zero-harm culture by ensuring compliance with applicable safety rules, laws, regulations, maintenance instructions, and Siemens quality standards.
- Plan, coordinate, and support locomotive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair activities to help return equipment to service quickly and improve fleet reliability.
- Provide high-quality technical guidance to maintenance teams, including mentoring and on-the-job training, to strengthen technician capability and support consistent service execution.
- Build strong working relationships with customers, local site teams, leadership, and third-party vendors to resolve issues, align priorities, and support safe, efficient railroad operations.
- Ensure defects, tasks, service requests, and maintenance activities are accurately documented in the CMMS to support compliance, issue tracking, corrective action, and closure.
- Share field insights, performance feedback, and improvement recommendations with teams and managers to enhance maintenance practices, productivity, quality, and long-term locomotive performance.
This posting outlines the primary responsibilities of the role, but is not all-inclusive; additional duties may be assigned in alignment with business needs.
To thrive in this role, you have:
- Associate’s degree in electrical technology or another technical field, or at least 5 years of electrical/mechanical experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting electrical systems, including AC and DC circuits, as well as mechanical and pneumatic systems.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical and pneumatic schematics, drawings, and technical documentation.
- Strong technical communication skills in English, with the ability to clearly document findings and communicate with internal teams and customers.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to travel up to 10% as needed.
Candidates should be willing to work in non-climate-controlled environments and inclement weather if required or if applicable.
Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without needing current or future employer-sponsored work authorization.
Purpose is the reason a company exists. It's not about making money or selling products - it's the deeper "why" behind everything we do. It answers the question: What problem are we solving? What positive change are we creating?
For Siemens, our purpose has been clear for over 175 years: We create technology to transform the everyday, for everyone.
The world needs technologies that work. Technologies that matter. Technologies that solve today's challenges and help shape a better tomorrow. And that's exactly what we build. By bringing together the real world (factories, buildings, power grids, trains) with the digital world (software, data, AI, digital twins), we help our customers become more competitive, resilient, and sustainable.
Our technology is everywhere - in trains and transportation, we help move people faster, safer, and more sustainably.
