Job Summary
The Public Safety Communications (PSC), Microwave Engineering Division, is responsible for a wide array of engineering activities and services related to the public safety communications systems engineering and design for public safety agencies of the State of California. Under direction of a Senior Telecommunications Engineer, the position ensures engineering services for public safety communications meet the critical operational requirements of the state. This role involves designing, managing, and maintaining critical microwave infrastructure used in emergency communications to support the State of Californians Public Safety Microwave Network known as CAPSNET.

Working Conditions

Hybrid Telework: This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule. Additional in office days may be required based on the business need.

DMV Pull Program: Participation in the DMV Pull Program is required. The position(s) require(s) a valid Driver’s License (DL). You must answer the questions addressing your DL on your application. Ensure you provide your DL number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions.

Conflict of Interest (COI): This position is designated under the Conflict of Interest Code and is required to complete Form 700 within 30 days of appointment. Failure to comply with the Conflict of Interest Code requirements may void the appointment.

• Please describe your experience designing, engineering, and/or installing point-to-point microwave communication systems. Include specific examples of projects involving microwave path design, radio equipment deployment, antenna installation, shelter/vault considerations, and supporting systems such as -48VDC power. For each example, explain your role, key technical challenges encountered, and the solutions you implemented to ensure successful system performance, reliability, and deployment.
