What you’ll do:

The Produce Assistant Supervisor will be responsible for the following:

The Produce Assistant Supervisor supports the management of all things produce and provides support for team knowledge across locations and shifts. This role acts as a liaison between farmers, chefs, store teams, and market staff, while ensuring top-quality product sourcing, customer satisfaction, and effective team coordination. This position combines procurement duties with on-the-ground supervision and training, and is vital to maintaining Cookbook’s high standards in both product quality and service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Buying & Procurement Support, negotiate pricing and volume discounts where applicable
  • Assist in placing and managing weekly orders based on chefs’ input and seasonal availability, maintain awareness of menu usage and make strategic substitutions based on availability and chef needs
  • Communicate with farmers post-harvest to confirm orders, handle substitutions, and ensure timely delivery
  • Attend weekly farmers’ markets (Wed, Sat, Sun, and additionally as needed) to inspect product quality and build supplier relationships; act as the “eyes and ears” of Cookbook at the Weekly Markets
  • Check invoices for accuracy and assist with payments
  • Support in sourcing projects: vetting new growers and producers, and helping coordinate logistics and payments.

Team Supervision & Training

  • Supervise market staff during market days
  • Help onboard and train new team members across produce and market operations, as needed
  • Maintain team accountability during shifts: manage roles, coverage, and breaks in line with labor policies
  • Ensure market team adherence to FIFO, labeling, inventory rotation, and merchandising standards

Customer Service & Store Operations

  • Deliver exceptional guest experience; act as point person for customer inquiries and concerns.
  • Oversee stocking, culling, and presentation of produce and flower displays.
  • Support and model product knowledge and hospitality among FOH staff.
  • Daily tastings and pre-shift support with CB team at whichever location you’re working out of.
  • Creation of and updates to produce information sheets and training materials, as needed.

Administrative & Shift Oversight

  • Prepare and submit daily shift recaps.
  • Communicate technical or operational issues with transit, refrigeration, store facilities and systems to Manager and/or Director as needed.
  • Vehicle use & maintenance
  • Labelling and packing truck neatly and safely
  • Making sure vehicle is clean, gassed up and ready for next shift
  • Schedule would be inclusive of market drops, administrative check ins, and inventory schedules
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications:

  • Maintain an up to date California food handlers card certification and anti-harassment certification.
  • Team-oriented, punctual, and proactive.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of seasonal produce, food systems, and local sourcing.
  • Prior experience in a supervisory or shift lead role preferred.
  • Must maintain a valid California Food Handler and Anti-Harassment Certification.
  • Valid Driver’s License required and ability to operate CB vehicles safely at all times

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
