Kinder Club Coordinator

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Kinder Club Coordinator facilitates the social, emotional and cognitive health and development of the TK & Kinder Club members. The Kinder Club Coordinator is responsible for the planning and implementation of a curriculum that enriches children’s natural learning abilities through a sensory rich environment and that are consistent with the BGCNLT’s youth development mission and goals.

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):

● Establish a program setting that ensures the health and safety of members

● Maintain appropriate adult/child ratios at all time

● Plan monthly curriculum in advance

● Keep areas clean and safe, reporting any building maintenance needs to Director of Program Services

● Maintain schedule and provide routine

● Give positive guidance and developmentally appropriate scaffolding

● Implement discipline policy with love, care and attention

● Clearly, respectively and effectively communicate with children

● Aide children with toileting needs as necessary

● Fill out incident reports when necessary

● Administer first aid to children in minor situations

● Attend Boys and Girls Club staff trainings and meetings as required

● Maintain positive relationships with schools, parents and community

● Document confidential, and detailed, records of observations and interactions with children and families as needed

● Write and/or provide information for newsletters to parents

● Clearly, respectively and effectively communicate with parents how their child’s day went

● Uphold policies, procedures, philosophy and mission stated in the Staff Handbook and Parent Handbook

● Maintain list of needed supplies, materials and equipment

● Be familiar with, and implement emergency procedures when needed

● Participate in any emergency drills initiated while on duty

● Use developmentally appropriate practices in the classroom

● Promote and market programs to the members

● Report any suspected cases of child abuse/neglect to the appropriate county CPS

● Clean any accidents that may occur such as spills or leaks.

● Use safe practices in any handling of blood, feces or vomit.

● Discuss with the director any identified problems or needs of the children

● Perform other related duties as reasonably required

● May be required to drive the club van

Additional Responsibilities:

· Purchase or approve purchases of supplies and equipment

● Work with staff on special events to carry out programs in all departments.

JOB REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS :

Preferred Education and Experience

· An Associate of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or Elementary Education

OR 24 CORE Early Childhood Education or Child Development semester (or quarter equivalent) college units and 6 months experience in a licensed childcare center or classroom.

· Strategies to motivate children to become involved in activities

· Strategies in effective prevention, intervention and/or redirection children’s negative behavior

Abilities:

· Read/interpret/apply rules, regulations, policies

· Rapidly learn methods and materials used in a variety of situations

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

· Must be able to move freely about the club environment to supervise and monitor activities of children, maintaining a safe environment for all.

· Ability to lift 50 lbs.

· Regularly required to use hands and fingers for reaching, handling, fingering, feeling.

· Upper body physical requirements include reaching, handling, lifting, carrying and pulling.

· Lower body physical requirements include stooping, kneeling, crouching.

· May be required to walk, sit or stand for prolonged periods of time.

· Ability to hear speech and other sounds.

· Ability to communicate verbally.

· Specific vision abilities required by this job include near/far acuity, near/far depth perception, near/far field of vision and ability to adjust focus.

· Ability to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and First Aid as needed.

Relationships:

Internal: Maintain close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer) to interpret and explain organizational mission, program objectives and standards, discuss issues, and provide/receive information. Has regular contact with parents and members as needed for discipline, advise and counsel.

External: Maintain contact as needed with external community groups, schools, member's parents and others to assist in resolving problems and to publicize the club.
