As a Senior DevOps Engineer you'll take ownership of designing, building, and scaling our cloud infrastructure and deployment platform. This role is responsible for owning the reliability, automation, and operational excellence of our AWS-based environment.

You will lead infrastructure-as-code initiatives, optimize Kubernetes workloads, improve CI/CD pipelines, and help establish best practices across cloud architecture, security, and observability. This is a hands-on technical role with significant impact on system scalability, developer productivity, and production stability.

Responsibilities

• Design and manage cloud infrastructure in AWS using Terraform as Infrastructure as Code (IaC).


• Architect, deploy, and operate containerized workloads on Kubernetes.


• Manage application deployments using Helm.


• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automated build, test, and deployment workflows.


• Ensure high availability, reliability, and scalability of production systems.


• Implement infrastructure security best practices, including IAM, network segmentation, and secrets management.


• Monitor system health and performance; improve observability through logging and metrics.


• Troubleshoot production issues across infrastructure, networking, and container orchestration layers.


• Lead infrastructure reviews and promote DevOps best practices across engineering teams.


• Optimize cloud cost usage and performance.


• Contribute to disaster recovery planning and implementation.


• This team is based in San Diego, CA and meets in office Tuesday and Thursdays.

Skills & Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in DevOps, Cloud Engineering, or Site Reliability Engineering.


• Strong experience with AWS (EKS, EC2, IAM, VPC, S3, RDS, etc.).


• Deep experience with Terraform (modules, remote state, workspaces, best practices).


• Strong hands-on experience with Kubernetes (cluster operations, scaling, networking, RBAC).


• Experience packaging and deploying applications with Helm.


• Experience building CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, etc.).


• Strong understanding of containerization (Docker).


• Experience with monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch).


• Knowledge of infrastructure security and compliance best practices.


• Strong troubleshooting and incident response skills.


• Solid scripting skills (Bash, Python, or similar).

Nice to Have

• Experience building event-driven and data-intensive systems in production environments.


• Hands-on experience with streaming platforms such as Amazon Kinesis or Apache Kafka.


• Experience designing systems using Amazon EventBridge or similar event-bus technologies.


• Experience developing and maintaining real-time or batch data processing pipelines.


• Strong understanding of distributed systems, messaging patterns, and data consistency tradeoffs.


• Experience supporting or building infrastructure for AI/LLM-powered systems and collaborating effectively with AI agents (e.g., Claude) to enhance automation and engineering workflows.

Base Salary Range : $180k-220k, 10% bonus, and equity.

In accordance with applicable state and federal laws, the range provided is Halcyon’s reasonable estimate of the base compensation for this role. The actual amount may differ based on non-discriminatory factors such as experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and location. Base pay is one part of the total package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and equity in the Company.
