Job Title: Labor and Delivery Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: RN - Labor and Delivery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Two years of Labor & Delivery experience required License: Current RN license in state of practice required Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Course required Must-Have: Associate Degree or equivalent required Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred Description: The Labor and Delivery Nurse is responsible for the planning and provision of nursing care to patients and their families during the antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods. This includes emergency situations and circulating for C-Sections. The nurse supervises and delegates care responsibilities to ancillary personnel according to their scope of practice. Performs physical and psychosocial assessment of patients, demonstrating knowledge and consideration of age and cultural differences while providing support for fetal demise. Initiates a multidisciplinary, goal-oriented care plan for each patient in collaboration with members of the healthcare team. Demonstrates appropriate clinical judgment in managing perinatal emergencies including but not limited to crash C-sections, precipitous delivery, and shoulder dystocia. Is competent in assessing fetal and maternal well-being, amniotic fluid status, vaginal bleeding, and recognizing and managing abnormalities. Effectively manages pain control in the laboring patient and supports alternative pain control when appropriate. Assists with epidural catheter placement and monitors fetal and maternal status during catheter placement and after medication administration. Educates patients and families in all stages of the perinatal and postpartum period, utilizing methods appropriate to age, condition, culture, and learning readiness. Completes legible, accurate, and timely documentation of all nursing care provided, including evaluation of patient responses to medications, treatments, and procedures. Consistently performs necessary unit-specific safety and quality control checks. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. All associates are required to receive all vaccinations as a condition of employment and annually thereafter, where applicable. Medical and religious exemptions may apply.
