Chief Estimator Construction (Emeryville)
Job Description
We are now interviewing Construction Estimator candidates for our client in Emeryville, CA.
The Chief Estimator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising the division's estimating program, providing technical and administrative direction to ensure corporate objectives are met.
WHAT YOU'LL DO :
- Manage and administer department functions including operating budgets, staffing, wage reviews, work assignments, performance evaluations, bid results, and archives.
- Implement and maintain corporate estimating procedures utilizing the corporate computer estimating system and database.
- Assist Executives, Business Development, and Project Management in determining project bids, strategies, and techniques.
- Review all final estimate packages for accuracy and completeness prior to formal quotation.
- Review scope/ proposal letters for bid and negotiated projects.
- Participate in presentations to corporate management and clients; may be responsible for closing sales.
- Provide technical assistance in negotiating contracts, change orders, etc., as required.
- Assist in preparing studies, materials and methods, recommendations, and cost estimates as needed.
The duties described are general; other duties may be assigned based on the role within the business unit.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL :
- Advanced management or technical training preferred.
- Strong organizational, supervisory, and decision-making/problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in using computers and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
- Familiar with modern computer estimating systems.
- Ability to prioritize, manage multiple tasks, and adapt to changing priorities.
- Ability to work under deadlines and changing requirements with a positive attitude.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Self-motivated, able to work independently and in teams.
- Professional interaction with employees at all levels, vendors, clients, and others.

WHAT YOU BRING TO US :
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in large-scale commercial construction estimating and related functions, with thorough knowledge of estimating objectives, strategies, techniques, and construction contracts.
- Combination of education and technical/field training such as Engineering or Estimating experience.
