We are seeking an experienced CNC Lathe Machinist who is an expert in setting up and operating CNC turning centers to produce high-quality, precision cylindrical parts. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented problem-solver who can interpret technical drawings, perform complete lathe setups from start to finish, and ensure all components meet strict quality standards. This role focuses on our turning department and is critical to our production of shafts, flanges, bushings, and other precision-turned parts.

Key Responsibilities

• Lathe Setup: Independently set up CNC lathes and turning centers, which includes installing and indicating chucks, jaws, and collets; selecting and setting up OD/ID turning tools, drills, and boring bars; and establishing work and tool offsets.

• Operation: Operate CNC lathes to perform operations such as turning, facing, threading, grooving, drilling, and boring on a variety of materials.

• Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret complex engineering blueprints, technical drawings, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) for turned components.

• Quality Control: Perform first-article and in-process inspections using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, thread gauges, and bore gauges to ensure all diameters, lengths, and features meet specifications.
• Program Management: Load CNC programs, run simulations, and perform minor G-code edits at the control to adjust for tool wear or material variations.

• Troubleshooting: Monitor turning operations to detect tool wear, chatter, or out-of-tolerance conditions and adjust speeds, feeds, and offsets as needed.

• Maintenance: Perform routine machine maintenance, such as cleaning, lubricating, and checking coolant levels.

• Safety & Housekeeping: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, adhering to all company safety protocols and procedures.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.

• [5+] years of hands-on experience as a CNC Lathe Machinist.

• Proven experience performing complete setups on CNC lathes / turning centers.

• Proficiency with lathe-specific CNC controls such as [e.g., Fanuc & HAAS].

• Strong ability to read and interpret technical blueprints and schematics for turned parts.

• Expertise in using a wide range of precision measuring tools.

• Solid understanding of shop mathematics, including geometry and trigonometry.

• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to [e.g., 50] pounds.

Preferred Qualifications

• Journeyman Machinist certification or completion of a formal apprenticeship program.

• Experience with specific machines such as [e.g., Doosan Puma & Haas ST series].

• Experience with live tooling , Y-axis , and/or sub-spindle lathes .

• Familiarity with operating bar feeders .

• Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).

• Experience with CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Fusion 360, GibbsCAM) for turning.

• Experience in a [e.g., AS9100, ISO 9001] certified environment.
