Certified Nursing Assistant
Under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager and the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Vocational Nurse, the Certified Nursing Assistant provides a variety of patient care activities and accommodative services for assigned patients.
In collaboration with licensed staff, organizes patient care and general unit activities to accomplish required functions.
Provides an appropriate environment for the provision of nursing care to individual patients by maintaining the patient room or area in an orderly manner and by assisting in maintaining the neatness of the work environment.
Provides designated patient care to assigned patients under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse according to physicians' orders and in conformance with approved patient care standards.
Performs patient care activities within limits of positiondoes NOT administer any medication or therapy; does NOT assume independent responsibility for any patient.
Monitors vital signs with reporting of significant changes to licensed nurse.
Records intake and output on nursing work sheet with notification of licensed nurse when intake or output is unusually high or low.
Assists with distribution and collection of patient nourishments and trays.
Assists in feeding patientsdoes NOT provide any type of enteral feeding.
Assists patient with activities of daily livingoral care, bathing, positioning, and elimination.
Practices appropriate safety measures in assisting patients with activities of daily living.
Performs nursing skills efficiency according to established standards of care.
Applies principles of infection control in the provision of patient care activities.
Adapts patient care activities to meet the needs of the pediatric patient and family with a focus on the developmental level of understanding.
Adapts patient care activities to meet the needs of the adult and elderly patient/family with a focus on special precautions to minimize the potential for patient injury.
Utilizes equipment in the provision of patient care services safely and effectively with adaptation of equipment usage to the age and general condition of the patient, as indicated.
Accurately reports changes in patients' conditions to licensed nurse responsible for patient when indicated.
Maintains professional level of conduct on nursing unit at all times.
Facilitates communication with patients, families, physicians, nursing personnel, and personnel from other Hospital departments.
Utilizes lines of accountability appropriately when errors in own or other's work are identified.
Participates in inservice programs and other self-directed learning activities to promote nursing practice.
Actively participates in the Unit performance improvement activities.
Consistently provides outstanding service to all patients, physicians, fellow employees, and guests according to position responsibilities.
Displays initiative to see processes to completion and offers assistance without being asked.
Consistently responds to requests in a timely manner.
Actively participates in department committees and group meetings with a focus on providing input to improve the quality of services.
Consistently demonstrates behavior, which reflects that working as a team is more important than self-interest.
Demonstrates interpersonal competencies such as problem-solving, negotiation, and conflict management to improve teamwork.
Consistently maintains professional level of conduct.
Facilitates communication with patients, physicians, guests, and co-workers as appropriate to position.

Protects confidentiality of patients/co-workers, respecting their dignity, privacy, and differences.
Shows respect for hospital property and the property of others.
Provides continual observation to one or two patients as needed.
Requirements
High School graduate or equivalent with documented competency in providing basic nursing care in accordance with competency inventory.
Current certification as a Certified Nurse Assistant in the state of California.
Current BLS certification.
Previous experience in hospital/nursing home patient care setting preferred.
Physical Demands
Physical Activity: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light to Medium Work.
Working Hazards or Risks routine hazards and risks involved in performing nursing activities, including potential exposure to infectious diseases, potential exposure to hazardous substances, potential musculoskeletal injures.
OSHA Blood Borne Risk Category I.
