Position Overview
Boys & Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley (BGCSV) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Director of Government Partnerships to join our growing team. Reporting directly to the Chief Development Officer, the Senior Director of Government Partnerships is a senior leadership position in the organization and will play a crucial role in cultivating and maintaining relationships with elected officials at the local, state, and federal level. The primary focus of this role is to secure government funding and support for our organization's programs and initiatives. This position requires a dynamic and strategic leader who can navigate the complexities of government funding while advocating for the organization's mission and delivering positive educational outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning:
- Shape and direct the organization's government relations efforts.
- Develop and implement the overall government relations and funding strategy.
- Coordinate government relations activities across the organization.
Relationship Building:
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with elected officials, government agencies, and key stakeholders.
- Represent Boys & Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley at relevant meetings, conferences, and events.
Government Funding:
- Research and identify funding opportunities at the local, state, and federal levels, that align with BGCSV's program and growth initiatives.
- Develop and submit compelling grant proposals and applications to secure government funding.
- Be aware of government funding being made available to community organizations, schools and school districts that can fund work being done by BGCSV and collaborate with school officials to leverage this support.
- Collaborate with program managers and finance team to ensure compliance with grant requirements.
Advocacy and Public Relations:
- Stay informed about relevant legislative issues and policy changes that may impact the organization.
- Advocate for policies that align with the mission and goals of Boys & Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley.
- Advocate for the BGCSV's mission and funding needs through public speaking engagements, media appearances, and advocacy campaigns.
- Raise awareness of the BGCSV's impact and achievements in the education sector.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with the Chief Development Officer, CEO and broader senior executive team, as well as program staff to align government relations efforts with overall organizational strategies.
- Collaborate with other community organizations and advocacy groups to amplify our impact.
Budget Management:
- Manage budgets associated with government-funded programs, ensuring proper allocation of resources and compliance with funding requirements.
- Monitor expenditures and provide regular financial reports to stakeholders.
Compliance and Reporting:
- Ensure compliance with all grant and funding regulations, reporting requirements, and audit procedures.
- Prepare and submit timely and accurate reports to funding agencies and government partners.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Political Science, Public Administration, etc.) or equivalent experience.
- Proven experience in government relations, public policy, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of local, state, and federal government structures and processes.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with elected officials and government agencies.
- Experience in grant writing and securing government funding is highly desirable.
- Deep familiarity with political dynamics and municipal structures across Santa Clara County and the broader Bay Area region is also highly desired.
- Familiarity with donor management software is a plus.
- Team player that thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Ability to consistently work a twelve-month position, including evening and weekend work as required. Must have reliable transportation to all work-related activities including evening and weekend work.
- Must clear a Criminal History check and obtain an FBI Fingerprint Clearance.
- Passion for youth development and a commitment to the mission and values of Boys & Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley.
