Job Summary:

The Staff Accountant will support the leadership team and will be responsible for a broad range of administrative duties. This is a newly created position that combines normal accounting duties with a compliance role necessitated by a material increase in funding related to the Eaton Canyon wildfire relief effort. This is a great opportunity for an accounting professional to learn new skills and have a meaningful impact at an organization that is helping the community rebuild and improve people’s lives.

Key Responsibilities:

General Ledger Maintenance

1. Record journal entries, accruals, and adjustments in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit fund accounting
2. Reconcile general ledger accounts, bank statements, and credit card accounts each month

Accounts Payable

1. Process vendor invoices, employee reimbursements, and credit card reconciliations
2. Ensure timely payments and accurate coding of expenses by fund, grant, and program

Retail Deposits & Sales Reconciliation

1. Record and reconcile daily deposits from ReStore retail operations, including sales, returns, and vendor market booth activity
2. Verify cash, check, and credit card transactions against point-of-sale reports
3. Properly allocate revenue and prepare related journal entries

Grant and Fund Accounting, Compliance

1. Assist in tracking restricted and unrestricted funds, grants, and program-specific budgets
2. Assist in determining reporting requirements for funding sources
3. Work to help ensure that resources are utilized appropriately in relation to funding source requirements
4. Support compliance reporting and maintain documentation for funding sources

Financial Reporting & Audit Support

1. Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
2. Provide documentation for external audits, annual Form 990 filings, and funder reports
3. Support financial analysis and reporting for Management and the Board of Directors

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
• 2+ years of relevant accounting experience; nonprofit experience preferred
• Strong understanding of GAAP and nonprofit fund accounting
• Proficiency in Excel and accounting software
• High level of accuracy, organization, and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Commitment to the mission and values of the organization
