Electronics Maintenance Technician – 100% Travel

Location: 100% Travel – Projects typically require six weeks in the field followed by one week off

Employment Type: Contract

Compensation: $32.00–$45.00/hour

H&W Rate: $5.09/hr (paid in addition to hourly pay rate for the first 40 hours worked each week)

Schedule: Monday–Thursday, approximately 7:00 AM–5:00 PM | Four 10-hour shifts, plus overtime as required

Position Overview

The Electronics Maintenance Technician maintains, repairs, troubleshoots, modifies, and installs electronic equipment and related systems. Equipment may include telecommunications systems, radios, radar, navigational aids, fiber-optic systems, computers, industrial controls, measuring equipment, and other complex electronic devices.

This position applies technical knowledge of electronics principles to diagnose equipment malfunctions and restore systems to proper operation. The technician will interpret manufacturer manuals, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, color codes, and other technical documentation to determine the appropriate work sequence, tools, and testing equipment.

The technician works under the supervision of a project lead or senior technician and receives additional technical guidance as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Support site preparation for the installation of FENS racks, ranging from wall-mounted units to multi-rack configurations.

  • Install or support critical power circuits and grounding for contractor-furnished racks.

  • Provide convenience outlet circuits for alternating FENS racks.

  • Support the installation of cable trays and conduits for FENS racks and associated cabling.

  • Install separate fiber pathways at each site according to requirements provided by the local FAA point of contact.

  • Support site preparation for rooftop LTE antenna installation, including establishing pathways for antenna cabling.

  • Provide a Contractor Construction Site Inspector to report to the FAA Technical Officer Representative.

  • Support general installation and construction activities, including preparing field redlines for conversion into final as-built documentation.

  • Remove, repair, or replace electronic components, wires, wire bundles, terminal blocks, and connectors.

  • Solder, splice, install, and repair coaxial, shielded, solid, and stranded wiring.

  • Test and troubleshoot electrical and electronic components using schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, technical publications, and system-specific test equipment.

  • Apply knowledge of transistors, solid-state components, integrated circuits, motors, servos, power transmission systems, and related electrical devices.

  • Troubleshoot, repair, align, and calibrate audio equipment and voice communication systems to the component level.

  • Install sensors, wiring, cabling, computers, radios, satellite equipment, and related electronic systems.

  • Perform work in fast-paced and unpredictable field environments, including outdoor work in varying weather conditions.

  • Complete other duties associated with the position as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Current and valid driver’s license.

  • Ability to travel up to 100% throughout the Central Service Area.

  • Ability to remain deployed at project sites for approximately six weeks at a time.

  • Willingness to use a personally owned vehicle for project travel.

  • Ability to initially cover travel-related expenses and submit them for weekly reimbursement.

  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions, including heat and cold.

  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.

  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office, internet applications, and email.

  • Ability to meet customer security requirements for moderate- to high-risk facilities.

  • Ability to work overtime as project needs require.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced electronics training from a junior college, military technical program, vocational school, or trade school.

  • Three or more years of experience testing, repairing, troubleshooting, and installing fiber-optic systems, Radio Control Equipment, telecommunications systems, or other complex electronic equipment.

  • Experience maintaining and installing electronic transmitting and receiving equipment, including radio, radar, telecommunications, and navigational aid systems.

  • Experience troubleshooting systems to the component level.

  • Knowledge of electronic circuitry, control systems, power systems, grounding, bonding, and communications equipment.

  • Experience reading and interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, technical manuals, and installation drawings.

  • Experience performing field installation, site preparation, equipment rack installation, cabling, redlines, testing, and system turnover.

Important Travel Requirements

  • Applicants must possess a current and valid driver’s license.

  • Employees will use their personally owned vehicles for applicable project travel.

  • Employees must initially cover travel expenses and will be reimbursed weekly in accordance with the company’s travel reimbursement policy.

  • This is a 100% travel position, with field assignments typically lasting six weeks followed by one week off.
