Reports to: Residential Manager

POSITION SUMMARY: The Residential Case Worker is responsible for the implementation of program services that are trauma informed, culturally responsive, and aligned with the Positive Youth Development Framework. The Residential Case Worker provides direct supervision and facilitates group activities to youth ages 12-18 throughout 24/7 programming. This position ensures safety for all participants and staff by setting and enforcing limits, modeling leadership skills, and communicating effectively. The Residential Case Worker will work in a team-based care model to ensure youth receive well rounded, consistent, and immediate support and reports directly to the Youth and Family Services Residential Manager.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Supervise program participants to ensure their physical, emotional, and psychological safety.
  • Know and implement elements of positive youth development so that youth make informed decisions and build resiliency.
  • Consistently set and enforce rules and expectations throughout programming.
  • Facilitate daily one-on-one check-ins with resident and drop-in youth, family meetings, and follow-up meetings and calls to identify additional areas of need or support and update each client's individualized service plan in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrate strong and effective crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques and provide appropriate referrals in response to 24-hour crisis calls, drop-ins, residents, families, and community members.
  • Use assessment skills and screening tools in collaboration with youth, families, and community partners to establish and track goodness of fit and make appropriate internal and external recommendations and referrals for services.
  • Support youth to enhance their education, vocation, relationships and communication, independent living skills, physical health, mental health, and more.
  • Facilitate and supervise daily structured activities that promote the 8 C's of positive youth development.
  • Maintain and update daily documentation and record keeping including client case notes, file maintenance, service records.
  • Complete daily facility maintenance checks including but not limited to inspecting, cleaning, and disinfecting of the facility and company vehicle.
  • Identify and prepare healthy and nutritious meals to residents and drop-in clients, engaging them in the cooking process to promote healthy communication and independent living skills.
  • Assist youth with scheduling of and provide safe transportation to medical appointments and other required health and supportive services.
  • Attend weekly meetings to discuss program updates, report on cases, and identify service delivery needs.
  • Effectively collaborate with other residential caseworkers and management team to perform daily case management and care coordination.
  • Implement program assessments with youth to help guide their Individualized Service Plan and Self Care Support Plan and track progress made throughout treatment.
  • Refer to and collaborate with other community partners assigned to youth to ensure well-rounded care and accessible services while at the facility.
  • Comply with mandated reporting including timely verbal and written notice to Child Welfare Services and documentation in organization's risk management software.
  • Report all accidents and unusual incidents based on the Channel Islands YMCA incident reporting process within 24 hours to management team and assist with necessary documentation in Safety Zone.
  • Understand, follow and enforce all YMCA policies regarding safety, including emergency procedures and responding promptly and when necessary.
  • Demonstrate effective professional boundaries, self-care measures, and seek support from direct supervisors when in need of assistance, additional trainings, or accommodations.
  • Participate in all required federal, licensing, agency and/or contractually mandated trainings.
  • May support other YFS departments with approval from supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be 21 years of age or older with High School diploma (enrollment in college or degree preferred)
  • CPR/AED and First Aid Certifications
  • Criminal background clearance
  • Completion of Child Abuse Prevention Training upon hire
  • One year of experience working with children and/or youth
  • Must possess good human relations and the ability to organize and communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing

  • The employee must be able to run, ride walk on the field or in nature walks, bike rides.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $19.00 - $22.00 per hour
