Job Description And Duties

Transportation Engineers perform professional civil engineering work in support of the planning, design, construction, and delivery of transportation projects within the North Region. Based on workload, delivery commitments, and seasonal needs, the incumbent may be assigned to Project Development or Construction assignments in either an office or field environment. When assigned to Project Development, the incumbent works under the general supervision of a Senior Transportation Engineer. When assigned to Construction, the incumbent works under the general supervision of an Area Construction Engineer, Senior Transportation Engineer, and may be required to work in a field environment during the construction season. In all assignments, the incumbent performs transportation engineering duties of average difficulty that require applying Caltrans standards, manuals, policies, procedures, and engineering judgment. Travel is required. A valid California driver’s license is required when operating a state-owned or leased vehicle.

• Appointment to Range D requires a valid Professional Engineering License (Civil) issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers. For all other ranges, a PE license is not required.
