Maintenance Technician - Escondido, CA (2nd Shift)
Job Description
- The Maintenance Technician plays a vital role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of production and facility equipment. This position focuses on diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining various systems, including mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and gas-fired equipment.
Responsibilities

- Maintain a safe work environment by adhering to all PPE, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and safety procedures.
- Report all food safety, quality, and defense concerns in compliance with SQF standards.
- Execute daily maintenance activities to support production uptime and departmental goals.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance based on CMMS work orders for electrical, mechanical, hydraulic systems, natural gas burners, thermal systems, and conveyor equipment.
- Observe equipment performance, analyze sounds/vibrations, and diagnose failures.
- Test repaired or installed equipment to ensure proper functionality.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and support program initialization.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, P&ID drawings, and technical manuals.
- Measure and verify system performance using calipers, micrometers, precision tools, and electrical meters.
- Disassemble and reassemble machinery using hand tools, power tools, hoists, and cranes.
- Repair or replace defective components and install upgraded parts.
- Perform alignment, calibration, and system adjustments, as well as basic welding and fabrication.
- Maintain HVAC and refrigeration systems supporting production.
- Assist production teams and other functions with equipment setup and changeovers.
- Provide real-time troubleshooting during production runs.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives for equipment reliability and uptime.
- Train and mentor team members as needed and maintain accurate documentation in CMMS systems.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Essential Skills
- Strong electrical experience.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on maintenance experience in a food manufacturing equipment environment.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing systems, including electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, steam, water, wastewater, refrigeration, and HVAC systems.
- Ability to work with processing and packaging equipment as well as material handling systems like forklifts and pallet jacks.
- Excellent English communication skills (reading, writing, and speaking); bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Trade school certification (preferred).
- Experience with PLC and automation troubleshooting skills.
- Experience with equipment integration and controls systems.
- Proficiency with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
- Experience in preventive maintenance.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

- The setting is very hot due to the ovens running 24/7.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Escondido, CA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $35.00 - $41.00/hr.
