Staff Battery Controls Systems Engineer
- Lead functional development through analysis of impact of architectural changes to fulfill upstream requirements via decomposed HW and SW requirements with expected performance, including control, sensing, state estimation, diagnostic etc.
- Create/update/modify/manage documentation to maintain accurate engineering work products; work with related engineers to review/approve/validate/release the deliverables and changes following Rivian engineering process and toolchains
- Represent the Battery Control Systems Engineering Team as a subject matter expert in Battery Control functional areas in crossfunctional development teams
- Determine the correct strategy for the definition of diagnostics and reactions to failure modes in the system using knowledge and understanding of the presence of high-level battery safety hazards to the user, service, and manufacturing personnel.
- Understand the failure analysis and top level effects of failure of the product in order to design the correct strategy for protection of the system against failures.
- Work together with cross-functional teams cascading sub-system requirements to SW/HW/component requirements, as well as validation specification development.
- Collaborate with system integration and validation engineers on validation planning; support validation execution and result review; support trouble shooting to determine solutions to observed issues
- Adapt and work within dynamic development timelines of multiple programs, with accelerated hardware production timelines, and software release cadence
- Quickly transition to a variety of engineering discipline work, from high-level cross sub-system projects to specific component focus, depending on need of the team and stage of development/ production Qualifications:
- 5+ years of work experience in HV Battery and/or EV powertrain system
- At least a bachelor's degree in engineering discipline
- Detailed understanding of battery voltage and temperature protection and monitoring components, pack monitoring components, switchgear, fusing and sensing components;
- Previous experience in automotive product development environments, familiar with development process, product launches and production schedules
- Previous hands-on experience with design according to ISO 26262, especially part 4/5/6
- Previous experience with DFMEA and FTA for system/HW/SW
- Strong communication, multitasking, and interpersonal skills, both in presentation and technical writing
- Display aptitude with a variety of engineering tools such as CAN loggers, software debuggers, oscilloscopes, multi-meters, and HV test equipment
- Holistic understanding of thermal and electrical interdependence in battery pack design
- Preferred : proficient skills in Python to support data analysis
- Preferred : Versed with automated requirements management tools (e.g. JAMA, Doors, etc.), system and risk analysis tools (e.g., Plato),circuit simulation tools (e.g., LTSpice, etc.), and issue tracking tools (Jira, Bugzilla, etc.),)
