Deaf Services Advocate
Manage a minimum active caseload of 30 consumers across CalAIM, Department of Rehabilitation, Regional Center, Independent Living, and other fee-for-service programs.
Provide individualized advocacy, peer support (when appropriate), case management, independent living skills training, housing support, employment services, benefits navigation, and resource coordination.
Assist consumers with accessing community resources including housing, healthcare, Medi-Cal, transportation, employment services, and public benefit programs.
Support consumers in developing self-advocacy skills and connect them with legal resources when appropriate.
Coordinate authorized services through DOR, Regional Centers, CalAIM, and other funding sources while maintaining compliance with program requirements.
Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation, case notes, reports, billing, and data entry in accordance with HIPAA, agency policies, and funding regulations.
Develop and facilitate individual and group trainings, workshops, presentations, and outreach activities focused on independent living, employment, accessibility, housing, tenant rights, self-advocacy, and Deaf-related topics.
Build collaborative relationships with employers, housing providers, shelters, healthcare providers, government agencies, and community organizations.
Conduct outreach to increase awareness of services within the d/Deaf community. Maintain established office hours while demonstrating flexibility to meet consumer and organizational needs.
Perform additional duties as assigned in support of agency operations.
Additional Skills
Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and a strong understanding of Deaf culture are required.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with individuals who are d/Deaf or in a related human services field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge of Department of Rehabilitation, Regional Center services, CalAIM, housing resources, employment services, and public benefit systems is preferred.
Understanding of housing resources, tenant rights, and related legislation.
Experience supporting individuals experiencing challenging or stressful life situations.
Strong computer proficiency and documentation skills.
Knowledge of Independent Living philosophy and consumer-directed services.
Excellent organizational, communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, and time management skills.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively while managing multiple priorities.
Ability to maintain professionalism, flexibility, confidentiality, and sound judgment.
Valid California driver's license (or state identification), current automobile insurance, or reliable transportation.
