We're seeking a dynamic Mentor Teacher to join our team at Educational Behavioral Consulting (EBC) in Palo Alto. In this leadership role, you'll combine direct instruction with mentorship, guiding a team of educators while ensuring compliance with specialized academic standards and fostering professional growth across our school community.

What You'll Do
- Model best instructional practices and provide coaching support to classroom teachers, fostering a collaborative learning environment
- Deliver direct reading intervention services as outlined in student IEPs and train education specialists to provide specialized reading support
- Conduct monthly informal classroom observations and provide constructive written feedback aligned with California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTPs)
- Meet with teachers on a bi-weekly basis to discuss progress, address challenges, and support professional development
- Ensure legal compliance and proper implementation of all Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), including goal development and progress monitoring three times per year
- Provide comprehensive training and support for teachers in electronic IEP systems and documentation practices
- Lead and facilitate professional development opportunities in collaboration with the administrative team
- Serve as the site coordinator for State Assessments and provide academic testing support for triennial IEP evaluations
- Support teachers in preparing for and leading IEP meetings with families, ensuring clear communication and meaningful collaboration
- Mentor new teachers and teaching assistants in assessment administration and data interpretation
- Coordinate parent-teacher conferences and support staff in designing effective communication strategies
- Lead the transition and implementation of electronic IEP systems (SEIS and SIRAS)
- Contribute to a school culture rooted in diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB)
- Perform additional duties as assigned by school leadership
What We're Looking For
- Minimum of 5 years of successful classroom teaching experience with vulnerable and underserved student populations
- Valid California teaching credential or valid transfer of out-of-state credential
- Recent, hands-on experience teaching students with emotional and behavioral disabilities, with deep understanding of anxiety, attention challenges, mood dysregulation, and specific learning disabilities
- Demonstrated expertise in Common Core Standards, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and differentiated instruction
- Proven ability to develop, implement, and monitor progress on IEP goals with fidelity
- Extensive experience preparing and presenting Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) to diverse stakeholder groups
- Strong proficiency in identifying and implementing evidence-based accommodations and interventions
- Excellent organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with skilled conflict resolution techniques
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills with sensitivity to both lay and professional audiences
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively on interdisciplinary teams and provide mentorship to emerging educators
- Passion for the CHC mission and commitment to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in all school operations
- Flexibility in scheduling and consistent punctuality in meeting commitments
Nice to Have
- Master's Degree in Education, Special Education, or related field
- Proficiency with educational technology tools including SMARTboards, document cameras, Zoom, and other digital platforms
- Experience with crisis response training and de-escalation techniques
- Background in literacy instruction and reading intervention programs
Physical Requirements
- Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
- Capacity to stand and sit for extended periods during instruction and supervision
- Willingness to undergo training and implementation of Crisis Response Training protocols
Special Considerations
- Occasional attendance at after-school and agency-wide events outside regular school hours is expected
- Extensive interpersonal interaction with colleagues, families, students, and community partners
