Cybersecurity Principal Engineer AI Software Development

General Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and self driven Cybersecurity engineer to join our AI software development organization. This role is critical in ensuring the security and integrity of our AI platforms, SDKs, and data pipelines. You will guide the work of AI Software engineers and collaborate closely with AI researchers, software developers, and infrastructure teams to embed security best practices throughout the development lifecycle. Daily work may include but not limited to performing security risk analysis on AI features, participating in architecture design review to provide security input, reaching agreement on mitigation measures, prioritizing internal effort on attack surface hardening and vulnerability detection, and supporting customers to meet their cybersecurity goals…

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and implementation of cybersecurity strategies for Qualcomm’s AI software products.
• Lead product security strategy and initiatives to continuously improve security of AI SW products and achieve industry leading position. Support customers on product security related issues and assist them in meeting their cybersecurity goals.
• Drive organization’s security effort to meet and exceed applicable cybersecurity requirements defined by global regulations and standards such as ISO 21434
• Conduct threat modeling, risk assessments, and security audits across AI development workflows.
• Define and enforce secure coding standards and practices for AI and ML pipelines.
• Collaborate with DevOps and MLOps teams to integrate security into CI/CD pipelines.
• Monitor and respond to security incidents, vulnerabilities, and compliance issues.
• Stay current with emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and regulatory requirements in AI and cybersecurity.
• Mentor and develop a high-performing cybersecurity team.

Qualifications:

• 8+ years of software development experience with at least 5 years in cybersecurity.
• Experience in performing TARA at system and component level.
• Experience with SDLC tools like SAST and SCA
• Familiarity with AI/ML systems, data pipelines, and model lifecycle management.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Experience on product security for embedded devices, which may include a subset of the following skillsets:
  • Device integrity and authentication
  • Secure communications
  • Trusted execution environment
  • Protected virtualization and platform isolation techniques
  • Embedded/real time OS security
  • Vulnerability detection methods
  • Exploit mitigation techniques
  • Hardware access control
  • Secure provisioning and debug
  • Key management and applied crypto

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Assurance, or a related discipline.
• 10+ years of expereince
• Experience securing AI/ML platforms (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, ONNX, MLflow).
• Knowledge of adversarial machine learning and model robustness techniques.
• Certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or GIAC.
• Experience working in regulated environments (e.g., automotive, healthcare, finance, defense).
• Understanding of secure software development practices and cloud security (AWS, Azure, or GCP).

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 8+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.
OR
Master's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 7+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.
OR
PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 6+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.

• 4+ years of work experience with Programming Language such as C, C++, Java, Python, etc.

Pay range and Other Compensation & Benefits :

$192,600.00 - $289,000.00

The above pay scale reflects the broad, minimum to maximum, pay scale for this job code for the location for which it has been posted. Even more importantly, please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Qualcomm. We also offer a competitive annual discretionary bonus program and opportunity for annual RSU grants (employees on sales-incentive plans are not eligible for our annual bonus).
