Basic Function: Under the direction and supervision of the Disability Support Services (DSS Director), the DSS Resource Specialist is responsible for coordinating resources and services for students with disabilities in the DSS program in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 Legislation. The DSS Resource specialist is also responsible for coordinating various administrative functions supporting student services . Representative Duties: Coordinates and administers all aspects of the provision of notetaking accommodations. E Facilitates and monitors disability-related accommodations, including but not limited to testing allowances, books in alternative formats, note-taking services, adaptive technology, accessible furniture, and other departmental functions. E Opens and closes office and oversees front desk services, including student staff, front desk workflow, phone calls and the main DSS email. E Oversees all functions of the DSS student staff, including leading the hiring details, providing office training, managing work schedules, organizing daily assignments, evaluating performance, approving timesheets, and offering guidance. E Provides services to DSS students which includes such duties as conducting student intakes, maintaining confidential notes, and collaborating with faculty and staff regarding appropriate accommodations and support for DSS students. identifies potential student needs or problem areas; provides resources and referrals. E Counsels DSS students in their growth/development during their academic journey; guides students with identification of long-term goals and career plans. E Evaluates, verifies, and interprets documentation from various professionals to determine student eligibility for DSS services. E Responsible for coordination of communication processes and reporting from Accommodate, the software used for the administration of DSS services. E Plans and conducts DSS informational meetings, presentations, and trainings to perspective students and their families, student leadership groups, classes, and other CLU constituencies. E Prepares and maintains a variety of technical and complex records and files related to assigned activities and functions; develops and maintains complex databases. E Completes ongoing training and professional development required for this position. Performs other duties as assigned. E= Essential Duties Knowledge Of: Disability rights and responsibilities for university settings in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 Legislation to include applicable laws, codes, regulations, and other policies and procedures relating to Students with Disabilities. Transitional issues from high school to college for students with disabilities, including but not limited to applications of learning styles and understanding motivating factors. University rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Student development practices in higher education. Academic counseling and advising strategies. Effective academic resources and strategies for student success. Collecting information, compiling data, and record-keeping techniques. Good customer service and Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy. Organizational and oral/written communication skills. Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary. Modern office practices, procedures, and equipment. Word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, and other relevant software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook Public relations and customer service techniques. Ability To: Execute program services according to department standards. Self-motivate and self-direct. Establish and maintain cooperative, professional, positive, and effective working relationships. Practice confidentiality and professionalism in all modes of communication. Evaluate, solve problems, and adopt an effective course of action to address these in a timely manner in the interest of the student, DSS Office, the University and in conjunction with federal law. Apply University policies, procedures, rules, and regulations appropriately. Explain all aspects of the DSS registration and activation processes and general academic requirements. Integrate resources, policies, and information for the determination of procedures, solutions, and other outcomes. Prepare, interpret, and maintain comprehensive narratives and statistical reports. Speak in public to all types of campus constituencies. Develop activities, presentations, handouts, forms, and other relevant communication. Work with a diverse population of students and campus affiliates. Perform multiple projects simultaneously involving people and paperwork. Organize work to meet timelines. Operate a computer and basic office equipment. Type, keyboard, and/or enter data at a speed necessary for successful job performance. Maintain spreadsheets and files with minimal errors. Learn and utilize work-related software programs. Communicate clearly and effectively. Schedule and coordinate meetings, conferences and appointments. Relay messages, and screen and route calls and visitors. Minimum Qualifications: Any combination equivalent to a bachelors degree from an accredited institution and six months of related experience in counseling, academic advising, student services or teaching. Preferred Qualifications: A bachelors degree and one year of experience in the higher education Licenses and Other Requirements: Ability to travel and work flexible hours as needed Physical Abilities: Detect to understand appropriate written correspondence; operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer; communicate to exchange information in person, in writing, on the telephone and by email; stationary position for extended periods of time; move or transport light objects; position self to store and/or retrieve files Working Environment: Office environment with constant interruptions and multiple projects; possible evenings and weekends, or holiday duties.
