Description
This Internship is offered as part of a Regional Internship Partnership to introduce and encourage current students and new graduates to local municipal governments. The Town of Los Altos Hills hopes that internships like this will serve as a platform to connect a diverse student population with agencies that recognize their value and provide important opportunities for applicants to bring fresh ideas while gaining valuable hands-on experience in the public sector.

Job Description:
The intern will work in the Public Works/Engineering Department and will be assisting engineering project managers with general clerical, administrative, field work, and technical tasks for public works projects. Tasks may include electronic document filing, checking mathematical calculations, creating spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel, preparing presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint, entering data and creating reports in various software applications, performing field data collection or investigation, construction management, internet research, creating map displays using Auto CAD, Google Maps/Earth, compiling and organizing data or documents. The intern may also assist in other areas such as internal and external Department communication and public outreach.
Qualifications:
- Ability to learn new information quickly
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong research and analytical skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and web-based resources
- Ability to prioritize assignments and utilize good organizational skills
- Exhibit a positive attitude and flexibility in accepting assignments
- Have an interest in working in public sector engineering and construction management
- CADD experience is desirable
Ideal Candidate
Ideal Candidate:
Applicants must be in the process of earning an undergraduate degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field. The intern position is geared for college students at the undergraduate level. Applicant must have a valid California Driver’s License (Class C)
