CNC Machining Manager

Purpose of Position
The purpose of the Machining Manager is to act as the front line for direction, instruction and training of staff in the Machining department as well as drive continuous improvement across key business objectives. This position will also operate and control machines and processes in the Machining department.
Principal Accountabilities
- Directs the activities of the Machining team.
- Plans and lays out complex operations in Machining; fabricates and assembles various types and sizes of product parts and assemblies
- Works in coordination with all other department Production Manager(s) to manage the daily operations of assigned employee(s), assuring overall quality, productivity, and policy / contract adherence.
- Maintains and promotes excellent client relations by identifying and promptly responding to all questions relating to the business.
- Provides knowledge transfer where inquiry requires higher level of expertise.
- Fosters a culture of continuous improvement.
- Assist with development of new processes
- Maintain item and job traveler information
- Writing and interpreting instructions and procedures to assemble equipment and products accurately.
- Performing inspections of equipment, materials and products.
- Learns and applies the latest relevant knowledge to the work.
- Participate in Management and Production meetings.
- Participate in ongoing Leadership development training sessions
- Conduct 1:1 meetings with Machining employees
- Conducts annual performance reviews for Machining employees
- Performs, or assists in, the orientation and training of employees.
- Hires, trains, supervises, motivates, and develops Machining employees; manages schedules and workflow.
- Assigns duties and monitors quality of work; assures employees conform to organizational policies and procedures and government regulations.
- Provides day-to-day guidance and oversight of employees; actively works to promote and recognize performance.
- Coordinates activities to establish production requirements and prepares a production plan to meet customer needs.
- Prepares a weekly production schedule and prioritizes production.
- Forecast material requirements based on customer requirements and communicate as requested by procurement.
- Analyze customer requirements and plan production to ensure efficient utilization of equipment and personnel.
- Maintain an inventory of raw materials required for production and inventory.
- Support and provide feedback to customer service, sales and leaders as needed.
- Manage capacity model for Machining production lines.
- Maintain month end inventory process for department and develop and recommend ideas to reduce physical inventories.
- Maintain department budget and keep Director, Manufacturing informed.
- Manage department budget and submit reports to Finance.
- Maintains an organized and clean work area.
- Continually look for opportunities to improve the manufacturing process and department.
- Work with the Modus QC Inspection team to ensure parts are within allowable tolerances and finished parts do not have any flaws.
- Adhere to all company Safety policies and procedures.
- Adhere to all company Quality Management System policies and procedures

- The Machining Manager is a key input to customer satisfaction and on-time delivery
- Performance is measured by On-Time Delivery and Customer Complaints metrics
Organizational Structure
The Machining Manager reports directly to the Director, Manufacturing.
Key Contacts: Machining Team, Sales Team, Engineers, Director, Manufacturing. All aspects of this position require constant interaction with employees and management.
Knowledge & Skill Requirements
- Bachelors degree or 3+ years of professional experience in a machining manufacturing environment. Engineering Degree preferred.
- Two to four years related experience or equivalent.
- Must be a US Citizen.
- 2 years of trade school or community college, Mechanical Engineer or similar.
- Ability to develop manufacturing process sequences and prepare efficient CNC programs using Esprit and/or other CAM systems.
- Able to Program Set up & Operate milling and 5 axis equipment, as well as common machine shop support equipment.
- Can interpret GD&T per ASME Y14.5 2009 and works from prints to determine operational sequences; select tools, spindle speeds, tool feed rates and chucking/holding requirements in accordance with materials.
- Handles change-over without assistance, has the ability/understanding of CNC machine logic, able to write programs, post-edit CNC programs to fine-tune processes for optimal performance and can read, find errors and troubleshoot programs.
- Demonstrates ability to effectively use all necessary measuring tools in order to validate conformance to print specifications.
- Experience with OKUMA-Mills.
- Demonstrated experience producing tight tolerance parts.
- Department of Defense and Aerospace experience a plus.
- Knowledge of proper use of measuring tools/gauges and cutting tools.
- Understanding of blueprints and routers.
- Excellent communication and basic math skills.

- Understanding of basic manufacturing principles, decision making, deductive reasoning, and troubleshooting
- Strong ability to read, write, comprehend, and communicate in English, bi-lingual in Spanish preferred
- Experience with MS Office 365
- Must be able to stand for extended hours
- Must have excellent eyesight (correction allowable)
- Performs miscellaneous assignments as required and/or requested.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

Job Environment
The Machining department is located in the warehouse. The warehouse area may be dusty, odorous, noisy, and subject to changing temperatures with outdoor weather.
The employee will adhere to all Quality Management System policies, procedures as well as 5S processes, and plant safety.
