Position Information $145,600 - $231,400 The base salary range represents a good faith salary range for this position. This position is eligible for annual incentive pay and has the opportunity for continued salary growth. If you are hired at American Water your base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as market, geography, skills, education and/or experience. American Water is also proud to offer employees learning opportunities and work experiences to grow professionPrimary Role Lead the finance function for multiple states or lines of business that supports achieving overall American Water goals. For area of responsibility, this role directs the business planning and reforecasting (landing zone) process, financial and management reporting activities, the design and management of internal controls, financial analysis and modeling, rate case support, business development support, and ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles. This role is a key strategic leader that supports driving sustainability and growth for the organization, which includes making strategic financial recommendations to Leadership. This role functions as a financial business partner, working cross functionally to communicate, align on best practice, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement. Key Accountabilities

  • Serve as a key member of the state or LOB executive management team - participating in strategy development and leading the resulting financial plan in order to achieve targets and objectives that support the overall corporate plan
  • Coordination and quality of financial reporting - monthly and annual reporting, business planning, monthly reforecasting, and analysis of financial risk
  • Evaluation of new business proposals - review financial analysis and modeling of proposed growth opportunities to assure financial viability for stakeholders
  • Provide financial guidance and serve as point of contact for all other finance-related activities for area of responsibility - rate filings, external audits, internal audits, financing activities, etc.
  • Build and manage a strong team of finance professionals, including coaching, succession planning, etc.

  • Must possess financial and general business background with operational knowledge
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Advanced knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (USGAAP).
  • SAP, Hyperion, Oracle Experience/Education
  • Degree in Business and/or finance. Masters degree preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree in finance, accounting or related field required. MBA preferred.
  • 10 years of accounting/financial related experience required.
  • 5 years supervisory experience or equivalent required.
