To learn more about us, please seeUnder the general direction of the Business Taxes Administrator III, the Supervising Tax Auditor III (STA III) is responsible for statewide leadership of the Revenue & Jurisdiction Services Program within the Local Revenue Branch. The incumbent oversees statewide allocation, distribution, reconciliation, and fiscal governance functions supporting more than $26 billion in annual local tax distributions across 1,000+ jurisdictions. The STA III serves as CDTFA’s statewide authority for allocation policy, CROS system governance, legislative implementation, cross-divisional coordination, and resolution of complex statewide allocation issues.

Under Government Code 14200, this position may be eligible for partial telework for eligible candidates residing in California. All telework/hybrid schedules require staff to report to the office a minimum number of days per week. Schedules are subject to change.
Currently, per the California Budget Act of 2025, all California Department of Tax and Fee Administration salaries are subject to the provisions of the State of California’s Personal Leave Program.

Working Conditions

In addition to meeting the Minimum Qualifications for the Supervising Tax Auditor III , competition is limited to individuals who meet at least one of the following promotional examination criteria:
- Have a permanent civil service appointment with CDTFA, or
- Are current or former employees of the legislature for 2 or more years as defined in Government Code 18990, or
- Are current or former non-elected exempt employees of the executive branch for 2 or more consecutive years as defined in Govt. Code 18992, or
- Are persons retired from the United States military honorably discharged from active duty with a service disability or honorably discharged from active duty as defined in Government Code 18991. Applicants must provide a copy of discharge papers (DD 214) for verification purposes at the time of application.
