Full-Time at The New Village School
Position Overview
We are seeking a thoughtful, committed Classroom Teacher to join our faculty. This role includes carrying a class during morning lessons and teaching subject classes as needed. The ideal candidate values child development, experiential learning, and strong relationships, and is eager to work within a collaborative, village-like school culture.
We are a vibrant, small independent school inspired by the work of Rudolf Steiner. We cherish the ideal of a true village, one in which arts and crafts, experiences in nature, diverse languages, rigorous academics, and strong human relationships provide the fabric for lifelong learning.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
- Carry a class through daily morning lessons (Main Lesson or equivalent block instruction)
- Teach subject classes as assigned, which may include academic, artistic, or practical disciplines
- Create a warm, well-ordered classroom environment that supports healthy child development
- Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate curriculum integrating academics, arts, movement, and experiential learning
- Present lessons through storytelling, hands-on work, artistic expression, and direct experience
- Observe and assess students through qualitative methods and narrative reporting
- Support students’ social-emotional growth and guide behavior with clarity, care, and consistency
Classroom and Community Life
- Build strong, trusting relationships with students rooted in respect and care
- Foster a sense of belonging and class community
- Communicate regularly and thoughtfully with parents
- Participate in festivals, outdoor education, field trips, and community events
Professional Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with colleagues in faculty meetings, study groups, and pedagogical planning
- Engage in ongoing self-reflection and professional development
- Collaborate with student support staff as needed to meet individual learning needs
- Uphold school policies, shared agreements, and the values of the school community
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree
- Teaching experience with elementary or middle school-aged children
- Strong classroom presence and organizational skills
- Commitment to child-centered, experiential education
- Ability to work collaboratively within a collegial faculty
Preferred
- Waldorf teacher training or current enrollment in a Waldorf training program
- Experience carrying a class and teaching main lesson blocks
- Background in arts, music, movement, handwork, or outdoor education
- Familiarity with developmental pedagogy and trauma-informed practices
