TIME COMMITMENT: Full-time (40 hours/ week) M-F 8 AM – 5 PM (hours may be subject to change based on


operational needs and may include weekends)

SALARY: $22.00 - $24.00 per hour

POSITION SUMMARY :

The Emergency Food Distribution Network Plus (EFDN+) Program feeds those who suffer from food insecurity in San Diego and Imperial County by acquiring and distributing food through our network of parishes and other sites. The EFDN+ Transportation & Operations Aide supports the Emergency Food Distribution Network Plus (EFDN+) Program by ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient transportation, storage, and distribution of food throughout San Diego and Imperial County. This role is responsible for vehicle operations, warehouse and site compliance, inventory and documentation, food safety practices, and professional communication with staff, volunteers, donors, and partner sites.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Transport food donations and program products safely and efficiently to designated distribution sites in accordance with EFDN+, United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Emergency Food Assistance Program (EFAP), and San Diego Food Bank requirements.
  • Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections; maintain vehicle cleanliness; report maintenance needs promptly; and follow all safe driving practices and traffic laws.
  • Support warehouse operations, including proper food storage, labeling, organization, cleanliness, and inventory control.
  • Inspect donated food for quality and safety, including temperature checks, shelf-life verification, and rejection of unsafe or unacceptable items.
  • Ensure compliance at warehouse and distribution sites by monitoring required signage, logs, forms, labels, pest control records, cleaning records, and civil rights documentation.
  • Complete and submit required daily, weekly, and monthly reports, including inventory reports, donation receipts, gas receipts, and other program documentation in a timely manner.
  • Carry out Fresh Rescue pickup procedures and complete daily reporting requirements, including documenting spoiled or unsafe food and reporting issues to a supervisor immediately.
  • Maintain accountability for EFAP products by ensuring items are separated, labeled, documented, and distributed according to program guidelines.
  • Secure and properly manage assigned keys, vehicles, and agency property in accordance with established check-in and check-out procedures.
  • Protect vehicle and warehouse security systems, including cameras and GPS equipment, and report any unauthorized access or security concerns.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and pantry sites regarding schedules, delays, ETAs, operational issues, and support needs.
  • Provide professional and courteous customer service to staff, volunteers, donors, partners, and community members, and participate in required meetings and trainings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS – EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 3 years driving experience.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle (Class C and Class B (optional)), liftgate, or pallet jack (Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) Operator Training).
  • Knowledge of food safety, storage, and handling practices.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (Preferred).
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions in English.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Ability to read a map and follow GPS instructions throughout San Diego and Imperial County.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Effective interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated professionalism supporting program mission.
  • Ability to work independently, manage routes efficiently, and respond appropriately to changing operational needs.
  • Ability to follow detailed procedures, complete documentation accurately, and meet reporting deadlines.

  • Effective verbal communication skills and professional interpersonal skills.
  • Basic math skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and internet navigation.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Valid California Driver’s License. (Class C and Class B (Optional))
  • Pallet jack or pallet handling certification, or ability to obtain certification as required. Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) Operator Training ( Liftgate and Pallet jack Trainings )
  • Safe driving record verified by DMV report (required).
  • Food Handler Certification (required).
  • Passing a background check (required).
  • CPR/First Aid Certification (desired).

Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here represents what must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and to get in and out of a vehicle. The employee frequently is required to walk; climb stairs; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/ or move up to 30 pounds and occasionally lift and/ or move up to 50+ pounds, and occasionally lift and /or move objects that weigh more than 100+ pounds using equipment provided. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. This position requires regular travel to warehouses, partner distribution sites, and donor pickup locations. The role involves routine physical activity, including lifting, loading, unloading, and moving food products and supplies. The Transportation & Operations Aide must maintain high standards of safety, compliance, dependability, and professionalism while representing the EFDN+ Program in the community. While performing the duties of this job the employee, may encounter at food distribution warehouses and sites moving forklifts and pallet jacks. When delivering commodities, the employee will travel throughout San Diego and Imperial Counties and be exposed to various weather conditions, such as rain and extreme heat and other hazards associated with road travel. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
