Safety & Security Supervisor (1st Shift, 7:30am-3:30pm Sun-Thurs)
SCOPE OF WORK: Reporting to the College Director of Safety & Security, oversees Campus Safety & Security departmental operations ensuring the safety and security of all students, faculty, staff, and visitors/guests of the college and the protection of college property and facilities.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Supervises, instructs and schedules Campus Safety & Security Officers in the performance of their duties;
- Ensures orderly behavior among students, faculty, staff and visitors;
- Counsel and inform students of their legal rights and responsibilities;
- Cooperates with law enforcement agencies in all matters of security, including sexual assault, drugs and other criminal violations on campus;
- Cooperates with local fire department and state fire marshal office in the investigation of all fire related issues and arsons on campus;
- Conducts investigations concerning NHTI policy violations and/or violations of State laws and adjudicate violations of NHTI’s Student Code of Conduct;
- Develops and implements emergency operation plans, safety programs and conducts reviews of safety conditions to ensure compliance with applicable safety and health standards and regulations and maintains documentation and records of safety and health conditions;
- Investigates occupational accidents or injuries to determine effective methods to reduce or eliminate hazards and writes or revises policies which ensure compliance in accordance with applicable health safety standards and regulations;
- Provides training to students and agency staff regarding safety and security standards, policies, procedures, protocols; Oversees fire apparatus which includes fire panels, smoke and heat devices, pull stations, sprinkler systems as well as security equipment, including card access systems, burglar alarms, video cameras and video monitors in all campus buildings and on campus grounds, conducts fire drills campus wide;
- Maintains key and ID systems and records for the college, responsible for the issuance of all keys/ID’s to students, faculty, and staff;
- Responsible for conducting performance evaluations and approving leave requests for the employees;
- Ensures Clery Act compliance as mandated by the Department of Education
- Maintains software systems including but not limited to, ID cards, card access, video camera, incident reporting database.
- Works with all other departments/constituents on campus, as needed, to ensure the safety and well-being of all, students, faculty, staff and visitors;
- Complies with all college, system, state and federal rules and regulations;
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Associate's degree from a recognized college or university with a major study in criminal justice, law enforcement, or related field. Each additional year of formal education may be substituted for one year of work experience
Experience: Four years' experience as a police officer, security officer, correctional officer, or military police officer, with at least one year of supervisor experience. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of formal education. Valid drivers' license. Current CPR/AED and basic first aid certification.
License/Certification: Valid New Hampshire driver’s license
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- A thorough character, reference, criminal background check will be conducted before appointment. Candidates who do not have good character or a conviction free record of serious offenses will be ineligible for appointment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in higher education.
- Familiarity with current issues and trends in higher education.
- Ability to foster collaborative relationships and to effectively communicate with diverse student populations and multiple constituents.
- National Incident Management System (NIMS) certification.
RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Considerable knowledge of law enforcement activities and familiarity with the laws pertaining to this field. Knowledge of laws and regulations concerning arrest and evidence. Knowledge of modern police methods and procedures. Some knowledge of the principles and practices of police supervision. Ability to enforce laws firmly and tactfully and to interrogate subjects in accordance with standard procedures. Ability to obtain information through interviews and to maintain effective working relationships with subordinate personnel and the general public. Ability to manage a work unit and to have good working relationships with various employees within the agency to which the position is assigned. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to cope with crises using physical force as needed. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the agency appointing authority.
