Job Description and Duties

Under the general direction of the Chief Deputy Director and the Director, the Division Director provides leadership and establishes policies and procedures which are consistent with state statutes and regulations for the services provided by the Administrative Division in support of Department Programs.

Working Conditions

This position is eligible for telework for up to three (3) days per week. The reporting location for this position is the California Natural Resouces Building at 715 P Street, Sacramento, CA 95814

Special Requirements

This position is designated under the Conflict-of-Interest (COI) Code. The position is responsible for making or participating in the making of governmental decisions that may potentially have a material effect on personal financial interests. The incumbent is required to complete form 700 within 30 days of appointment. Failure to comply with the COI Code requirements may void the appointment.

You must provide direct responses to each of the numbered items listed below. Each individual response must be numbered and include the full text of the numbered items prior to your response. Limit your SOQ to a maximum of three (3) pages, single-spaced with no smaller than 11point font. Applicants who do not follow these parameters shall be disqualified from the examination


DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Describe your experience overseeing diverse administrative functions such as California state government fiscal operations, human resources, procurement, audits, and facilities management. Provide a specific example of a time you integrated two or more of these areas to improve an organization’s performance. What was your strategy, and what were the results.
  1. Describe your experience establishing and maintaining strategic partnerships across all levels of an organization, including executive leadership and diverse internal programs. Please detail your approach to service-oriented leadership and provide a specific example of how this approach enabled you to align administrative operations with broader departmental goals and business objectives.

  1. Describe your experience leading the development and facilitation of solutions to complex governmental problems that required you to engage with state control agencies such as Department of Finance, CalHR, Department of General Services, and the Legislature.

  1. Describe your executive level experience overseeing a department’s budget process. Provide a specific example of how you managed a complex fiscal challenge to ensure long-term fiscal sustainability and alignment with the Governor’s Budget priorities.

  1. Describe your experience identifying and mitigating significant organizational risk in a public agency. How did you assess risks, help identify mitigations, and communicate, plan for and facilitate change management? What was the outcome?
