PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Preschool Teacher facilitates the social, emotional and cognitive health and development of the children. The Preschool Teacher is responsible for the planning and implementing of a curriculum that enriches children’s natural learning abilities through a sensory-rich environment and essential learning experiences.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

Must pass pre-employment medical examination, TB test clearance, Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance and either have or obtain Pertussis and Measles vaccinations. CPR and 1st Aid certification as well as other online trainings may be acquired after employment.

JOB REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS :
Education and Experience

· Child Development Associate Teacher, Teacher or Master Teacher Permit.

-OR-

· 12 core Early Childhood Education or Child Development semester (or quarter equivalent) college units and 6 months experience in a licensed childcare center.

-OR-

· 6 core Early Childhood Education or Child Development semester (or quarter equivalent) college units and continued education of at least 2 units per semester until fully qualified and 6 months experience in a licensed childcare center.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Maintain preschool in accordance to Title 22 and the State Health and Safety Code
· Maintain appropriate adult/child ratios at all time
· Conduct a developmentally appropriate instructional program including, but not limited to: singing songs, games, reading/telling stories, science experiments and discovery, art, physical education, literacy, vocabulary, mathematical skills, hygiene, health and safety, social skills, emotional literacy, cooking, self-help skills, outdoor exploration and field trips, multi-cultural diversity, foreign languages, music, dance and environmental awareness
· Plan monthly curriculum in advance
· Conduct individualized observations and assessments
· Comfort children when needed
· Keep areas clean and safe, reporting any building maintenance needs to Director
· Maintain schedule and provide routine
· Give positive guidance and developmentally appropriate scaffolding
· Implement discipline policy with love, care and attention
· Clearly, respectively and effectively communicate with children
· Aide children with toileting needs as necessary
· Fill out incident reports when necessary
· Administer first aid to children in minor situations
· Attend Boys and Girls Club staff trainings and meetings as required
· Attend weekly Preschool Staff meeting
· Maintain positive relationships with schools, parents and community
· Document confidential, and detailed, records of observations and interactions with children and families as needed

· Act as liaison between families and community agencies when making necessary referrals

· Write and/or provide information for newsletters to parents

· Clearly, respectively and effectively communicate with parents how their child’s day was

· Uphold policies, procedures, philosophy and mission stated in the Staff Handbook and Parent Handbook

· Maintain list of needed supplies, materials and equipment

· Be familiar with, and implement emergency procedures when needed

· Participate in any emergency drills initiated while on duty

· Use developmentally appropriate practices in the classroom

· Be familiar with and implement ECERS

· Report any suspected cases of child abuse/neglect to the appropriate county CPS

· Clean any accidents that may occur such as spills or leaks.

· Use safe practices in any handling of blood, feces or vomit.

· Discuss with the director any identified problems or needs of the children

· Perform other related duties as reasonably required

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Skills:

· Passion for preschool education

· Communicate effectively with staff, teachers, parents and children

· Maintain cooperative work relationships

· Strong oral and written communication skills

Knowledge of:

· Preschool age development.

· Title 22 Regulations.

· Proper English usage.

· Record-keeping techniques.

· Developmentally appropriate practices.

· Strategies to motivate children to become involved in activities.

· Strategies in effective prevention, intervention and/or redirection children’s negative behavior.

Abilities:

· Read/interpret/apply rules, regulations, policies.

· Rapidly learn methods and materials used in a variety of situations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

· Must be able to move freely about the club environment to supervise and monitor activities of children, maintaining a safe environment for all.

· Ability to lift 50 lbs.

· Regularly required to use hands and fingers for reaching, handling, fingering, feeling.

· Upper body physical requirements include reaching, handling, lifting, carrying and pulling.

· Lower body physical requirements include stooping, kneeling, crouching.

· May be required to walk, sit or stand for prolonged periods of time.

· Ability to hear speech and other sounds.

· Ability to communicate verbally.

· Specific vision abilities required by this job include near/far acuity, near/far depth perception, near/far field of vision and ability to adjust focus.

· Ability to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and First Aid as needed.
