Job Description and Duties

As an Information Technology Specialist II ( ITS II) working as a System Administrator, End User Computing, you’ll be working on some of the department’s most complex IT projects. Your focus will be on making sure our employees have the technology and systems they need to do their jobs; you’ll take the lead on things like planning, installing, configuring, and maintaining computers, devices, and Microsoft Windows environments. You’ll also be a go-to for system administration—managing users, devices, and keeping systems secure and up to date. A big part of this position also supports the FI$Cal system, so you’ll get to help plan and carry out IT services from the early planning stages all the way through daily operations. While this position is focused on Client Services and System Engineering, you may also take on tasks in other IT domains as needed.

Working Conditions

At FI$Cal, we currently offer a remote-centered position with the flexibility of telework up to three days per week. In-office attendance is mandatory on designated days and is subject to change. Our office is located at 2000 Evergreen Street, Sacramento, CA. Candidates residing outside of California are welcome to interview, but proof of California residency is required before appointment. Please note, relocation and commute expenses are the responsibility of the employee.

This position requires prolonged sitting in an office-setting environment with the use of a personal computer. Employees must demonstrate a commitment to maintain a working environment free from discrimination and sexual harassment. All staff must maintain regular, consistent, predictable attendance, maintain good working habits and adhere to all policies and procedures.

Special Requirements

• This position requires the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines and may require excess hours to be worked.

• This position may require the use of a hand-cart to transport documents and/or equipment over 20 pounds.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

• Experience with Virtual Desktop technologies, including cloud-based VDI
• Experience with end-user device installation, configuration and troubleshooting with Windows Operating Systems
• Experience in installing, configuring, troubleshooting, servers and storage infrastructure
• Experience in creating and updating technical support documentation
• Experience in installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining operating systems and business applications
• Ability to exercise a high degree of initiative, independence of action and originality
• Understanding of Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) and working in a process driven environment

Statement of Qualifications

Statement of Qualifications (SOQ)

A Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is required and must be submitted with your application. The SOQ serves as a documentation of each candidate’s ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing.

When completing the SOQ, you must title the page “Statement of Qualifications” and list the question, providing your answer below. When completing the SOQ please explain your answers thoroughly, including tools and commands you used. The SOQ must be typed in 12-point Arial font and be no more than 2 page in length with correct grammar use, punctuation and spelling. Your SOQ must address the following:

Please choose one of the three following scenarios and provide detailed steps on how to troubleshoot and resolve the problem.

1. How would you troubleshoot the following performance problem? VMs running on NFS storage show performance degradation when communicating with an external NFS share. Whe problem.en the VM is moved to iSCSI block storage, the performance degradation to the external NFS share disappears. The hypervisors are the same, the only difference is the VM files reside on either NFS or iSCSI storage.

2. We have GPO for a particular Windows 10/11 vulnerability that sets a value to "1" in the Windows registry. During weekly vulnerability scans, different laptops show the value set back to "0". Why do the values revert to 0?

3. User attempts to start and login to a Windows 11 desktop. The process halts with the error "The logon request failed because the trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed".
