Licensed Vocational Nurse
Starting September 10, 2025 to end of January 2026 (will not be paid for days school is closed/days not worked)
Location : Baldwin Park, CA
Pay rate : $38/ hr
- M-F 7:30am-4pm
- Working remotely
A. Commits to honoring the schools Mission, Vision, and Core Values.
B. Provides feedback for policies and standard operating procedures for providing and evaluating health care services.
C. Utilizes the appropriate health process to carry out the health needs and concerns of the ECE children and families: assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning and implementation, documentation, monitoring and evaluation.
D. Collaborates with services staff and consultants and reviews all health files within federally outlined timeframes to identify and assist children and their families with pre-identified problems.
E. Collaborates with medical home, disability specialist, and appropriate management to assist children and their families with pre-identified problems.
F. Works with Health Services Manager and education staff in supporting children and their families with pre-identified problems obtained from assessment, evaluations, health history, developmental history, and other available health information.
G. Provides health information and education to children, families, and staff members within the ECE program to promote health and prevent disease.
H. Serves as a liaison and advocates for all children and families within the ECE program.
I. Assists in identifying and linking a medical/dental home for program participants.
J. Works with the Family Service Facilitator to assist families in obtaining completed medical and dental examinations.
K. Works to ensure that all pregnant women and children age 0-5 meet all health requirements specified by local, state, and federal policies and regulations.
L. Coordinates and plans health screenings, staff and parent education, community outreach and health advisory committee activities.
M. Collaborates with Health Services Manager and provides training and customized response to health needs of individual children.
N. Reviews all files to ensure that children are up to date according to the EPSDT periodicity schedule.
O. Administers and educates around the topic of first aid and emergency care as needed..
P. Ensures that there is a weekly health curriculum for assigned sites and furnishes health advisories to families.
Q. Reviews and maintains classroom health monitoring tools and the Grantee Approved Database, including reporting concerns to management team.
R. Coordinates nutritional needs of children on special diets with the recommendation of the registered dietitian.
S. Develops and maintains community resources and Memorandum of Understanding with local providers.
T. Establishes and maintains working relationships with community health care providers which provide free and low cost health care services to children and families.
U. Participates on the multidisciplinary and management team meetings.
V. Participates on the Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect Team.
W. Tracks services received and referrals made on behalf of children and their families.
X. Explains the purpose of screenings to parents, obtains consent, and assists in health screenings.
Y. Delegates activities to health clerk and any other district-approved service providers.
Knowledge of:
Principles and practices of current trends in the fields of nursing and school health.
Public health/community nursing.
Health care delivery systems and the concepts of primary health care (EPDT).
Communicable diseases.
Applicable laws, regulations, and standards as it relates to ECE.
Health, dental, and nutritional needs of children.
Ability to:
Analyze Head Start Performance Standards and State Licensing Standards.
Work effectively with others, especially low-income families.
Read, write and speak English fluently and effectively; communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain professional and positive working relationships with ECE and District staff.
Operation of a computer and assigned software; use Microsoft Office
Use health-related equipment and audio-visual equipment.
Maintain a high level of care and thoroughness in handling details of a task.
Work independently with little direction.
Respond to the stated needs of the customer.
Complete work in a timely manner despite frequent interruptions; meet schedules and timelines.
Maintain focus and thoroughness in the performance of duties.
Requirements :
- One year of experience in pediatrics or community health is required
- AHA, BLS
- Valid California Licensed Vocational Nurse.
- School Audiometric Certificate (may obtain while working under supervision within the first year of employment).
- CPR and First Aid certificates.
- Valid California Driver’s License and provide a motor vehicle with insurance or the ability to secure transportation required to complete the duties of the position.
- Bilingual/biliterate in Spanish or other languages is preferred.
