Payroll Technician
Position Overview:
The Payroll Technician ensures accurate processing and recording of ongoing payroll to a variety of PEO clients by providing timely and accurate financial information, participating in daily data entry and general payroll processing, and ensuring the highest level of customer service is delivered to all clients and employees.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None
- Performs daily payroll department operations;
- Manages workflow to ensure all payroll transactions are processed accurately and timely;
- Reconciles payroll prior to transmission and validates confirmed reports;
- Understands proper taxation of employer paid benefits;
- Processes correct garnishment calculations and compliance;
- Processes accurate and timely year-end reporting when necessary (W-2, W-2c, etc.);
- Enters, maintains, and/or processes information in the payroll system; information may include employees’ hourly rates, salaries, commissions, bonuses or other compensation, time worked, paid leave and holidays, deductions and withholding, address changes, and other information;
- Ensures proper processing of payroll deductions for taxes, benefits, charitable contributions, and other deductions;
- Issues, or reissues, physical or replacement checks or direct deposits due to payroll errors or final discharge;
- Other duties may be assigned as need by management;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills;
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software;
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;
- Basic understanding of clerical procedures and systems such as record keeping and filing;
- Ability to work independently;
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, HR, or similar highly preferred;
- 1-2 years’ of payroll technician experience;
- Prior working experience with Prism preferred;
- Working knowledge of payroll best practices;
- Strong knowledge of federal and state regulations;
- Strong PC skills including proficiency in Excel;
- Strong work ethic and team player;
- High degree of professionalism;
- Ability to deal sensitively with confidential material;
- Strong interpersonal (verbal and written) communication skills;
- Ability to communicate with various levels of management;
- Previous PEO experience essential;
- Decision-making, problem-solving, and analytical skills;
- Organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and keyboard;
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work;
- Light to moderate lifting may be required;
- Regular, predictable attendance is required; including quarter-driven hours as business demands dictate;
- Moderate noise (i.e., business office with computers, phone, and printers, light traffic);
- Ability to work in a confined area;
- Ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period.
Salary Range:
- $21 - $23 per hour
