Job Description and Duties

Under general direction, Director of Marketing & Business Development (SSM II Supervisory) is responsible for day-to-day management and implementation of all advertising, marketing, promotions, research, sponsorships, publications (graphic design) and special activities for Cal Expo and all competitive programs.

  • Experience working at event facilities, fairgrounds, or theme parks; event planning
  • Ability to communicate well and work with a variety of personalities while maintaining a professional and diplomatic demeanor; ability to prepare and give presentations

  • Strong and consistent ability to prioritize activities and to handle multiple responsibilities within specific time frames and work well in a fast-paced environment
  • Possess strong written, verbal communication skills
  • Ability to assess issues and quickly identify the best possible solutions
  • Exceptional attendance, punctuality, and dependability and a strong work ethic
  • Strong customer service skills, interpersonal skills consultative abilities, while exhibiting tact and diplomacy
  • Ability to gain and maintain the confidence and cooperation of those contacted during the course of work
  • Ability to analyze data and present ideas and information effectively both orally and in writing
  • Consult with and advise Executive staff or other interested parties on a wide variety of subject-matter areas
  • Ability to review and edit written reports, utilize interdisciplinary teams effectively in the conduct of studies
  • Experience and knowledge of managing a complex marketing program
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of employee supervision, development, and training
