Zen is looking for a Mid-Level Information Systems Security Engineer (ISSE) designs, implements, and maintains security solutions to protect a Department of Energy customer. With 3–5 years of experience the ISSE, designs, configures, and maintains security infrastructure including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), endpoint protection, and SIEM platforms. The ideal candidate must possess strong technical expertise and be able to collaborate with various teams for all aspects of cybersecurity monitoring and delivery. Mid-level Information Systems Security Engineers (ISSE) are expected to work independently on routine tasks and projects, with periodic check-ins from their manager or team lead.

Responsibilities

The Information Systems Security Engineer (ISSE) will design, implement, and assess secure information systems across the NNSA Enterprise. Ensure compliance with CNSS, NIST, and DOE cybersecurity standards.

- Design, configure, and maintain security infrastructure, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), endpoint protection, and SIEM platforms

- Install and configure security tools and technologies in support of cybersecurity activities.

- Conduct risk assessments, vulnerability scans, and penetration tests to identify and mitigate security gaps.

- Monitor and respond to security incidents, coordinating with SOC and incident response teams.

- Implement and enforce security policies, standards, and procedures across systems and applications.

- Support compliance efforts with frameworks such as NIST SP 800-53, Department of Energy, and CNSS standards.

- Demonstrate ability to utilize automation to enhance configuration and deployment accuracy and timeliness.

- Maintain documentation of security configurations, incident reports, and audit findings.

- Stay current with emerging threats, technologies, and best practices in cybersecurity.
