Staff Accountant (Contract) Location: Irvine, CA Work Schedule: Hybrid Industry: Energy Trading About the Opportunity Our client, a growing company in the energy trading industry, is seeking a Staff Accountant to join their team on a contract basis while they conduct a search for a permanent hire. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional with a strong educational foundation and some hands-on accounting experience to gain exposure to a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities Prepare and post journal entries Assist with month-end close activities Support the accounts payable process and related accounting functions Prepare and review accruals and account reconciliations Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation Assist with general ledger maintenance and analysis Collaborate with accounting and cross-functional teams to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting Support other accounting projects and initiatives as needed Month-End Close Environment Fast-paced close process with a three-day month-end close cycle Financial system locks at 9:00 PM on the third day of close Ability to meet deadlines and work efficiently during close periods is essential Required Bachelor's degree in Accounting (required) Understanding of Accounts Payable processes Experience preparing or assisting with accruals General understanding of journal entries and the month-end close process At least some professional accounting experience (candidates directly out of college will not be considered) Strong Excel skills
