Company Description McFadden Family Law & Mediation is a single attorney family law practice serving clients in Ventura County, CA, and surrounding communities. The firm handles divorce, child custody, support, and related family law issues, with an emphasis on respectful, solution-oriented representation. Mediation services are offered to help clients resolve disputes outside of court where appropriate. Team members collaborate closely to provide organized, compassionate, and effective support throughout the legal process. Role Description This is a part-time, on-site Legal Assistant role based in Thousand Oaks, CA, 8 hours per week to start, with the potential for more. The Legal Assistant will support the attorney with day-to-day case management, including preparing and organizing legal documents, filing pleadings with the court, and maintaining case files and calendars. Responsibilities include answering phone calls and emails, scanning and filing documents, managing mail and office supplies, drafting legal forms and routine correspondence, and notarizing documents once certified. Must be willing to become a Notary Public (training and expenses paid). The Legal Assistant will help ensure that office procedures run smoothly, maintain confidentiality of client information, and contribute to a professional and supportive client experience. Hours are Tues & Thurs 10:00-2:00 pm to start, with potential for more. Potential for more hours and advancement to paralegal position for the right candidate, if desired.

Qualifications

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Administrative assistance skills, including data entry (type minimum 30 WPM); proficiency with Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, and Google calendar; file management (paper and electronic).
• Some legal knowledge helpful, but not required.
• Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion, maintain professionalism under pressure, and manage multiple deadlines.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; additional legal education or paralegal/Legal Assistant certification is a plus.
